Toshiba Main Power Light - Nothing Else

    Hey everyone,

Have the most bizzare behaviour going on with a Toshiba Estudio 3515AC.

System was working fine, then had to move offices. Was transported very carefully (I made sure) literally 10 minutes up the road.

Unpacked the machine, plugged it in and was working fine for about 1 minute then switched itself off.. Odd but ok, unplugged and replugged, nothing but a green main power light.

Took the back cover out, watched as I plugged the machine in, the main power board relays click, then the logic board gets a green light for a brief second then I can hear the relays click and everything shuts off. Nothing on the screen, no startup animation etc.

On the main panel again nothing but a green main power light but pressing the button does nothing.

Now this is where it gets REAL bizzare.

If i open the front door, and plug the machine in, it fires up. Screen lights up, goes through the startup checks all 9 steps etc but then gets the "Close Door message on the screen" The instant the door is closed, you can hear the relays click. Everything shuts down and it goes back to a black screen with just the main power light on Green.

Local Toshiba tech said he has zero idea and hes never heard of this before, so doesnt really have a clue where to start. I first thought dodgy power board, so ordered a replacement, swapped it out and exact same behaviour.

I've tried starting it with the fuser unit removed also, still no dice.

Anyone have any ideas? My next thought is to replace the logic board but its another $$ part that may not be the culprit.

On youtube it seems other people have had the same issue and swapping out the power board has resolved, but not for me.

I had a similar issue quite a long time ago. Hard to recall all the detail, but as I recall the final thing I did was reseating the control panel and all the connectors in it.
    FWIW I hope this helps.

Well..the REASON the system boots then when you close the door you are closing the interlocks and supplying power to the items the interlocks shut off. Something you are making come to life when you close the door is the culprit. I would start with the electrical troubleshooting guide, but it seems Toshiba has hidden where those are if they still exist - I have seen the control panel wiring get in a bind or twist or just not be right and cause strange things to happen. Beyond that I would try to eliminate the high current items, starting with the interlock system and the fuser along with the board failure diagnostic tool. You may have a pinched wire or an overly aggressive zip-tie. Get out the circuit diagrams and eliminate sections of the machine, pull the fuser, run items in output mode..etc

This is not an accurate description of how the interlock works. The interlock is basically a safety feature, so morons don't open a door and put their fingers in moving gears or a 4oo degree fusers. It will not allow the machine to function UNTIL the interlock is met and all covers are closed.
The machine will normally boot up with the door open as the interlock is not in line with power supplied to the SYS and LGC boards, HDD etc..
Check that the interlock switch itself is not failing, this can cause all kinds of weird issues. As mentioned, the op panel or wiring could be a cause.
I would also be curious to know if the machine gets an IP address. Without the panel, you could use Advanced IP Scanner to see if it obtains an IP address. If you can get to the webpage, issue is most likely the panel or related component.
FYI, the wiring diagram is at the end of the service manual.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

I've had this on a brand new console 9029 and it ended up being the interlock switch harness was pinched with zip ties check the harness and remove all zip ties and try booting..

Check that you're getting power through the switching regulator. Also, check the LED's on the SYS board. I have had this one play out 3 times, each having to replace the SYS and PSU to get it back going. Check the power on PSU, not the LED indicators on the SYS board. if the far left LED is illuminated while you have power light on then 100% going to have to change it.
