    Toshiba 2555C hard drive failure F101-1

    Is there a way to recapture the firmware of the unit before the HDD is replaced?
    I see in the SM that the backup should be.
    Perform [3C] - [5] (Key Backup Restore) and checkthat each Key Status is "OK".
    - If not, recover the key (copy "SRAM Key Status" to
    "FROM Key Status" or vice versa).
    In this mode I see 4 choices,
    what is the correct choice/choices to save the information to the thumb drive?
    Also is there a size restriction on the thumb drive seeing that it is an older unit?

      The 2555c series of copiers were prone to HDD failures. Should the HDD be dead you can only use a Toshiba original SED-HDD to replace it due to the embedded encryption keys.

      The HDD on the following generation of copiers rarely failed.

      You can use up to an 8 GB thumb drive formatted in either FAT32 or exFAT but not NTFS.

          Just to be clear you cannot recover this information from the sram of the machine?
          Also, I wrote the incorrect model it is a 2550C.

              No, you cannot recover firmware or any other data from a dead HDD. You also cannot copy data from another HDD to a new HDD, or move a working HDD without re-loading firmware. These are encrypting HDD's, and firmware must be loaded through the machine (cannot be pre-loaded). =^..^=
              If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                              Ok i will buy that. For Canon ive swaped out a HDD with a used HDD and booted up. Not sure about the new DX series. On the older Estudio i was able to put in a new toshiba HDD and do format in service mode and it booted right on up. Its was back in 2004 when i was a toshiba tech. On my own now! Also, Konica Minolta is sweet! You can simply turn the HDD off and still use the copier!
