    E-Studio 451c ADF Alignment Issues

    I'm having trouble with the Automatic Document Feeder on our Toshiba E-Studio 451c.

    When copying or scanning via ADF, the resulting file or copy is skewed or crooked.
    When copying or scanning on the glass, everything's fine.

    Is there something I can do to it or do I need to have a professional come and look at it?

    You can check for foreign matters in the original path and if slides are not too wide. Generally check Operator manual for limitation of using DF.

      Basically a few screws need to be loosened off and a couple of guide posts put into the machine to line everything up.

      You are probably better off getting a tech in to do this.
      Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

        It could be several things causing this symptom like the others have mentioned. An obstruction in the paper path or possible misalignment of the document feeder as it is mounted to the 451c. Another common problem with the MR-3018 doc. feeder is the top cover. When it is fully closed, is the cover flush with the front and rear covers? I have seen damage to the inside front where the rod is held in place which releases the top cover. This will cause uneven pressure when feeding originals or skewed copies. Where in PA are you?           On the back of the ADF are two posts screwed into one of the hinges. These post fit into both of the holes located at the front and rear of the slit glass (1 1/2" X 12" piece next to larger glass) Install both of these posts and lower the ADF. If the ADF fits easliy onto the posts (no resistance) the ADF is correctly positioned and the feeder should be looked at by a professional to determine what is wrong. If it does not fit, remove the 2 screws behind the feeder, and LOOSEN the knurled screws that secure the feeder hinges that you can see when feeder is open. Lower the doc feeded onto the posts and ensure they fit into the holes. On the right rear corner where you removed one of the feeded screws, look directly down into the hole where the screw will be repositioned. If the hinge hole and threaded hole do not line up, use the small adjusting screw to move the hinge hole over the threaded hole. Secure this hinge with the screw previously removed and then the other rear screw, followed by the knurled screws. Remove the postioning pins and remount. This should eliminate any skew caused by a twisted feeder. Ed
