    Toshiba E-Studio 810

I have this Problem with a Toshiba E-Studio 810.. "Starting Controller Please Wait". Stays this condition as lomg as 10 minutes and then turns back to copier page. Copies fine, Wont print.
I have read it is most likley the HD causing the failure.

I need this firmware to install on the new HD

    Controller

This might not be the hard drive. Those controllers are bad at locking up because they do not restart with the copier, they may be on for months. Also, the logs never clear. Turn the machine off, then unplug it. After a minute, plug it back in then turn the copier on. It may take the controller 15 minutes to fully boot....if it comes up, get on the web interface for it via the IP address and login as the admin. Go to the logs and clear all the print and scan logs...the scans may take a long time to clear. Afterwards, restart the controller again.

If it is the hard drive, there are two disks that are required to reinstall the OS, one to partition it and one to load the OS and they are not readily available if you are not a Toshiba Dealer.

      one other thing

In addition, those controllers require a special wire harness in order to connect a CD drive to it in order to reinstall the OS.

The GL1010 has a cd drive, the GL1020 does not. If you have the special cables that is great, but if you dont, you can just plug a standard IDE cable from the motherboard to any cd drive. Spare hookups for power are bundled in cabling. Don't waste the money buying the special cables. Ed

I do have an external CDRom and can connect it to the 1020 but at the same time i need a CD itself to run in a cdrom

Yes you need to reload the driver and you should have this on a CD as on the 1010 you would just put it in as it had a CD drive on it.

Never turn off or unplug the machine befor you shut down the Driver 1st or you will get this.

There is also a red buttom on near the top of the controller. Hold it down for a few seconds (i use a pen) and it will reboot the controller. Safer than just turning off the copier or unplugging it. But your hard drive or OS may be hosed.

The red LED is power on. The yellow LED next to it is the one that can help you troubleshoot. This LED indicates HDD activity. It should be intermittently flashing as the drive is accessed. If it is on steadily, your drive is probably crashed.

Probabably a bad HDD..To be sure, put a monitor on the video port and re-boot. You can watch the process and see where the fault is.

                        controler

If the customer scans a lot you need to set the scan log to auto delete and update the controller to the latest version it corrects a lot of problems

Sounds like you are watching the NIC LEDs. They make no difference when controller is booting. You need to unplug MFP from the wall to shut down controller (or press the re-boot button located where you see the steady red LED and possibly blinking amber LED). Either way, hook the monitor up and re-apply power to the MFP. Once it come to ready, if the MFP detects the presence of the controller (working correctly or not) you should be able to press the printer hard button and see the "Start Controller" message. If you see the message, press it and then watch the process on the monitor. If you don't see the start controller message, try reseating the controller or double check that the 120vac power cable is pushed in all the way. If the controller starts, but fails to boot, you will see some kind of failure message on the monitor. Most probably the failure to boot from the HDD. If so this is when you need the new HDD and the partition/recovery cd to get things rolling again. Let us know what the situation is. EMujo
