    Toshiba e-studio 650 Firmware

My Toshiba e-studio was working fine with scan, copy, scan to email etc but had stop printing the config page, and allowing us to print to it. I called in a tech which said it needed a firmware update to reconfigure the hard drive. He came back a few days later, was on the phone with some other tech that was walking him through it, plugged in a cd rom and as it was reading, stopped, would not load and started beeping. He said it was the controller going out and they did not know it till they tried to update the firmware and that it will cost $2000 to fix... Am I missing something, did he just jack up my copier all the way by doing a firmware update incorrectly, collect $300 for his trouble and tell me it will cost $2000 to fix? So this is what I did, I am good at building gaming computers and software as I have been doing it for years. I took apart the machine, The hard drive connected to the processor at the back of the machine, I assumed it was the firmware unit, and took it out, booted up a linux system using the firmware cd and it went through its checks and said cannot update wrong os version or something. So I booted to linux, plugged in the hard drive and open the drive folder and copied the firmware file and overwrote the old files and some were system locked and would not overwrite. I put the hard drive back into the system and it boots up with no beeps now, saying f100 which I looked up on this forum and it said it was a firmware issue with the drive. I did as recommended 08-690-2 and its been waiting for over 4 hours. At least I was able to get the copier going again, but I need 2 things and heard they were obtainable but need help.

    1. I need the usb firmware
    2. Instructions on how to format, partition and install the usb firmware.

I would really appreciate any help. I was told I could get that information here.

    E 650 firmware

OK Bro....The E650 doesn't have USB update capability..It has to be done with E prom Jigs for each circuit...i.e. engine,,,system,,,scan, etc...The very first thing to do is reformat the harddrive using service code 08/690..set this to 2....After that you'll either have to use the eprom jigs or order the eproms already loaded for the boards....engine(main)..system...feed... and scan...best bet to get new eproms.. setting 08/690 to 2 should clear your f100 code..

I did the 08-690-2 yesterday and it went into a waiting status, I left after a few hours and it still said waiting, I did not want to mess with it under the presumption that it will take many hours being a slow processor and formatting the drive. The system does have a usb card next to the network card with a printer or parallel hookup. If you kindly direct me to getting new eproms, I will buy them. At least I feel like someone really knows what they are doing.. Man, I cannot believe they send techs out who have not done these things before and blame the clients when they fry the system..haha

personally, as a tech, i would call that company back and let them know they did not fix your machine..this should classify as a call back and there shouldn't be a charge..they should re install the firmware using jigs.. not a laptop and print usb...they will have to recover the COPIER first before you can fix the print side

ok, I will try Monday and let you know. I initially called them to come out and inspect the copier for $100. When he left, they charged me $130 and said it needed firmware. When they came back, it cost me $230 for them to break it and blame it on the machine failing... A 111,000 copy total e-studio 650 mind you. So it cost me $360 for nothing. Will he be able to fix the unit if the controller no longer boots or the network no longer lights? Is it due to the f100 error code?

Without knowing exactly what they did, your print controller can be restored via print utility..I wonder why the tech didn't check that everything was functional before he even left the premisis..Stick to your guns and they will make it good..The print controllers on those models had marginal rliability..If the power switch was turned on and off quickly or several times, it would freeze. To reboot, had to turn power off, unplug from wall, . When powered back up those print controllers take as long as 15 minutes to reboot back to working condition. Your machine is not destroyed,,just needs a knowledgeable tech..you should not have to pay for a 2nd visit..be firm

Thank you teck07, I removed the main hard drive, reformatted it at ext2, reinstalled it and while booting tried the system format again using 08-690-2 and it worked as it said reboot. Now I used the GL1020 partition/software all in one disk I was given and hooked the GL1020 hard drive up, booted my computer and it reads Kernal Panic: VFS Unable to mount Root fs on 16:00 which looking this up says that the software is looking in the wrong location to partition and load firmware. So what I am asking you guys is does someone just have a GL1020 hard drive image that I can clone? I would really appreciate it and it would fix an issues broken by a tech that charged me for nothing and left my system beeping and not working at all.

              Thank You,

The restore cds are 2 disks, 1st formats the HDD for Linux, 2nd reloads OS. There is no shortcut. Yes you can ghost a working HDD and throw it in there, but you don't have a working HDD. I have both cds PM me if you want them. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.
