    e-studio 350 / 450 generic toner ?

I am about to take on a hand-full of the e350/450 models on lease where I will supply the toner and all service of course as well, I have little experience with this model, do they generally do well with a generic toner, and whose generic is good in this model ??

Or am I forced to stay with the oem, thanks for your input.

Also is this a pretty reliable machine ???
Are there very common problems to look out for ?,, Thanks...

They are pretty good machines with OEM toner. I don't mess with generic toner so can't tell you any that would work.

Beware of C970 codes which are common. Caused by charge corona arcing. Toshiba has tried a few fixes for this but it's basically ozone buildup causing the arcing. Clean the corona shell and replace the grid and it will go away.

You can make money with these machines.

Always remember, non-OEM toner = more service calls.
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

Stay far far away from anything other than oem in these machines!

What about drums, cl blades, fuser rollers, feed tires, etc., should I stay away from the generic in them too ??? I thought the Katun stuff was pretty good in past years...

I've been running generic "everything" in all my old Sharp lease equip. I have in the field for many years, like in the ar-337/407 series, with great results...

Do these newer Toshiba's just have to have all oem supplies ? , hard to make money with the cost of some of the oem stuff ya know...

I'm looking for any and all input, just give it to me straight, thanks.

I've picked up some machines that had Katun drums in them which seemed to work OK. Feed rollers shouldn't be a big deal. It's toner that is the biggest issue.

That said, the OEM fuser rollers can go double their rated life (one of the few Toshibas that will do this) and the drums hold up well too, so factor that into your cost analysis.

As I said before, they are pretty good machines so don't hesitate in picking them up. Then experiment with what works and adopt what you find successful.

Only Katun fuser kit I used was junk. Didn't even go 66% life and you can really milk the OEM parts like was said above. Make sure you keep the energy savers turned on to a reasonable level. If they are low volume then they can really cook the fuser rollers and the plastic parts around it.

You can keep them a lot cleaner if you include in your price enough money to get new waste toner bottles. That way the customer doesn't have to empty it (happier customers) and get toner everywhere. I can always tell the machines that the customer is using new bottles. 1. They don't call as often for WT troubles, 2. The inside of the door is really spotless.

The ADFs one the 450 series I believe are very reliable. I have plenty out there that all I ever do to them is put feed tires in them. The newer feeders are good too (452/3 series) but had a lot of sensor problems.

C970 you will see a lot, what I do is hand string the coronas and add a little cushion to keep the wires from vibrating and arcing. Toshiba has a lot of kits none of which solve the problem completely. But I have had really good luck doing this...
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

I have used Katun toner in this series for years with no problems. The trick with Katun toner is to "lean out" the developer mixture when you're calibrating. I do this when using OEM as well, and I've had no trouble.
