    e-Studio 200L through 282 Bypass Sensor...

As many of you guys may know by now, the Bypass Sensor (mounted to the underside of the Bypass unit) on these machines, goes bad.

The usual symptom, as far as I can tell, is that the machine JAMS, but only after it stays running for 30 seconds after initial paper feed with the indication of "PRINTING" in the display, then finally throws a jam. The code appears to be E-550 jam. Now, I saw this rampant several years ago and thought all the newer e202L and above had the (what appeared to be) the new style sensor, and I didn't have to worry about it any longer. EVIDENTLY NOT.... I fixed a long term and problematic e-202 several weeks ago, that I had no idea the sensor was bad on.

Well today, I had another one that seemed to go bad, so I put a new sensor in to fix it... SAME THING... Now I don't know if I just got a bad new sensor or what (since these things seem to be so problematic) but I noticed a slight difference in the color of the return spring. The older, bad ones tended to have a silver colored spring and the newer, better ones have a brass one. This new one today had silver again so I don't know what's going on. For you guys that want the part number, its 6LE09239000.

    Any help appreciated!

Aren't they like those 3018/20 doc feed sensors? They are pretty finicky but the ADF ones now seem to be fixed. I was told that if you disassemble the sensor and break the windows out so that the LED and receiver can "see" better that it fixes them. I have tried this to no avail, not sure if it will help you or not. Been a while since I put one in (look out tomorrow!) but the jam is just like you say. Hadn't noticed the spring differences.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.
