e-Studio 550, Saddle Stitch Finisher problem...

Error code when staple head tries to move, and the problem is a broken guide pin underneath the staple head, which keeps the head IN the rail as it moves. I can feel that the white plastic pin is cracked/broken, but it looks like a BEAR to get out.

    Any ideas?

PUNT!!!!! If this is the upper stapler it is a pain but not that bad.
Start by disconnecting the cables from the finisher pwb.
then there are two screws on the back and two on the front. then the witch of a plug for the home sensor. then a lot of wiggling and the whole assembly comes out the front. then it is easy.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

      yep...

Thanks Spock.. YEAH, I went out and did it today. Pain in the (you know what). That middle bracket (L bracket) that's in the middle of the staple tray, I don't know why it's there, but I'm pretty sure I could do without it. I put another used one in from an MJ-1017 and put it into the MJ-1018. Left the grease off the rail, which I think was part of the original problem.
