estudio firmware read off usb issue

i have been using a thumb drive to update firmware on estudio 281,351,451c's some machines it works fine, some say cannot read usb drive or somethng like that, i have tried taking the mentusb.0 file off the root, in the root, in the foldr, off the drive, ive used the mentusb.0 by itself, with and without 4-9 at start up... im out of ideas, is there a fix for this?

does the thumb drive have the u3 software on it? If so get rid of it as that is the issue. Also are you removing the thumb drive from the computer or clicking safely remove and going that way? Most computers write to the usb in the background and it may not be all there if you do not first select the safely remove option.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

u3 is a piece of crap "autoexecute" file that starts the thumb drive. When installed into a windows computer it auto runs a program that the company puts on (auto open the windows explorer, auto run play mp3's.....) this can confuse some copiers and it does not allow the thumb drive to be recognized. Why it works on some and not another I have no idea. Google u3 remover and run it if you think it may have it then reload firmware and try again.

I always remove and format ANY USB drive before I use it. When you buy them new, they've got all kinds of crap "auto backup" software on them and the like, that could interfere with firmware upgrades. Also, and for whatever reason, some brands of USB stick work better than others. I've been having good luck with the "PNY" brand.

I do too but the format will not get rid of the u3 software. It will come back the first time it is put back into a windows computer.. You have to download the remover to get rid of it completely.
