e-STUDIO28 Jamming at Relay gate or should I say entrance to bridge unit

    Hello everyone

I have a client with a e-STUDIO28 that Jams at the Relay gate .When they select to duplex and sort the copies need to travel to the finnisher. It seems that the gate is late in coming down by what seems like half a second and the copy is delivered straight from the fuser exit to the inner tray and not directed into what as a Ricoh tech we call the bridge unit which causes the machine to indicate a jam at the finnisher. I have tested the function of the gate with service mode 03 #232 and it does not delay when I press the start key so I'm unsure if it is a mechanical or board level problem. I would be grateful for anyones help.

    Thanks everyone

You can try loosening the screws which hold the bridge unit to the left of the copier. Seen this quite a few times, even on out of the box machines. Keep them firm, just not as tight as possible.

Check the operation of the fuser exit switch. If this is slightly off then the bridge gate is not triggered in time. Replace the switch and the actuator and see if that helps. Also check the ext shaft on the fuser as I have had the rollers break the glue and slide causing them to stall and cause jams.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

seems like i remember having some where the gate was slow to fall back down. I think it had something to do with the little foam cushions that dampen the noise of the gate mechanism. You might try taking them off and generally making the gate as friction free as possible. Been a while since I saw it on an e45 series though. We call it a Bridge also.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

Great to know that possibly can cause a jam at the gate. Some Ricoh's have the same issue on the DF's for thier 22 and 28 cpm machines. Thanks for the terminology clearification.

I'm told that some of the solenoids on the bridge unit can stick as well. I believe this is likely caused by the excess amount of "scum" (for lack of a better term) that comes evaporating off those fusers and gets everywhere (orange colored goo.)
