There is a procedure for replacing HDD. One of the very importance step is installing HDD and UI firmware. Practically it is better to flash all firmwares.

I'll never ask if I didn't check user manual, service manual, parts list, BSI/TNI/TAD... web, existing threads.

You need to follow these steps.
        replace hard drive
        clear & 3 option 3
        flash firmware
        08-947
        08-690-2
power off then on and check operation.

The firmware has to be flashed after replacement because that is where the boot information is for the machine.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

          hi,
Have you formated the original HDD before you decided to chage it with a new one? If not, try to reinstal the original HDD and format it (procedure: enter service mode (hold 0 and 8 and start the machine) enter 690 set value "2", reboot).

You're in over your head..how much money are you saving by doing it youreslf? Not much if the MFP is down for who knows how long. Maybe next time you might ask what is involved in replacing the HDD before you just throw a "HDD from PC" into it and hope for the best. If I was the tech you will wind up calling I'd charge you double hoping to teach you a much needed lesson. Now we're all gonna have to see your posts saying "now what, now what, that didn't work etc". Ok I'm done. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Mr Spock gives sound advice. If you dont partition the HDD in Clear 3 mode, nothing will work. Then you flash the Firmware in 4-9 mode and follow the rest of his advice.

If you are back to the freezing and ready disappearing state then I'd try a System board next. Not a cheap/easy thing to just "try" though. You could also try reseating/replacing the memory and NVRAM chips on the system and logic board along with all other connectors. Usually the old "reseat" the connectors tip doesn't work but every now and then you get lucky.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.
