You could also try reseating/replacing the memory and NVRAM chips on the system and logic board along with all other connectors. Usually the old "reseat" the connectors tip doesn't work but every now and then you get lucky.

      I had the same problem with an es 352, one of the techs on the forum suggested the display panel is bad, so i replaced it
      and that solved the problem, when the display panel freezes or goes blank, you should still be able to access the machine via top access and change the configurations. If so the display panel may be bad. good luck

        In the 230 models you need a 80gig IDE hard drive. If the hard drive is to big it can cause problems. Follow the procedure from Mr Spock and maybe do the 08 - 690 also. If this doesnt work with an 80gb hard drive check the jumper settings on the hard drive. I usually set them to cable select or master.
        It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.
