    Toshiba 6550 Help

I appreciate if anybody can give a little help on this old copier.

I have adopted a Lanier 6765, which is equivalent to Toshiba 6550. After tried to clean all mirrors, "Call for service 800-xxx-xxxx" message came on and could never pass that. It seems to be a interlock or disconnected wire problem. But without a service amanual and schematics it looks like a dead end to me.

Can some one point me to a right direction? Thanks

hold down C & 8 and give code that shows. If machine was not giving code before cleaning optics re check where you been. if you cleaned under the lens there is a slider that that you can get out of place. the lens travels on it.

        Thank you for the hints.

Held down both C & 8, the display shows "A1". Does it mean something near the mirrors?

By the way, before I cleaned the mirrors, t was working well except the copy quality was terribly bad.

        Thanks,

A1 is the charge and T/S cleaner not going to home position. Hold 0 & 8 down while turning machine on. hit 40 print, hit 1 interrupt turn power off
now take out charge and T/S and make sure cleaners are at home position and reinstall. when you turn machine on code will be gone. you just turned off the cleaners. we used to deal with several of these and we did this on all of them. also we removed the drum unit and removed drum and took out the cleaning corona and end blocks underneath the recovery. while you have the drum unit out clean blanking lamps good. make sure the developer unit is turning while running as bearing lock up. off brand toners will also give you problems. you say CQ bad in what way. backgrounding, light, dark

Followed the direction step by step ...............problem solved!!!!!
Thank you very much for helping.

Now the copier is back alive, but the printing quality is still not so good. I suspect the mirrors and lense are still dirty somewhere. There are some repeatable black spots on same (or close to same) location on the paper. To me, it seems like coming from some dust in the optical path.

Any advice or trick for cleaning the mirrors and lense? Thanks.

I would expect the drum blade is probably stuffed too. Check the fuser (and oil supply rollers (x3 on these from memory - it has been 7 years!).. maybe the drum (it could be stuffed - but it may come good with a polish - but TAKE CARE - SELENIUM IS TOXIC)....

These were pretty good machines but they had their problems. And they are very old now. The later 6560 was much better (opc drum).

                  Good luck.

very possible recovey blade also needs replacing. drums are not to bad price wise for this machine if you can find. off brands usualy work well. clean discharge lamp well and blades that limit discharge lamp exposesure. if it has lower cleaning roller, we always removed. it's an old machine but we got some good service from them but unless you have a customer paying for all this I wouldn't invest. total rebuild could get expense

It is true. Now it's time in debate to continue or stop right here to save cost. I may have to think over the weekend.

Soory about the late response. I have a hard time to log back in to do any posting.

The copy come out nice and clean finally. That's a great feeling. Many thanks for all valuable tips provided. I deeply respect you guy's expert experience.

Yeah, followed up the procedures step by step. Took out drum and toner assembly and cleaned really well. Replaced drum blade and toner recovery blade. Then, all problems are gone.

If I can make a small conclusion, it'll be worth while to change clean balde and recovery blade together during one job.

Again, thank you for all the help. Now, planning to work on Toshiba 1650 as next project.
