    e-Studio 3510c - Bizarre Image from autoDoc

I have a client that I'm working with where the auto-document feeder was jamming and causing the image to look skewed. So I replaced all the rollers in the auto-document feeder and the jamming problem went away and the paper takes a perfect paper path through the document feeder but the skewed image still remains. Upon closer look the image itself shows anomalies in it. for example the original has a line on a worksheet for someone to write information, ie.Your name:_____________. On the original this line looks perfect, but on the copy through the auto-document feeder, this line has a break in it that has half the line about 1/16th of an inch skewed from the rest of it. Also, this line skew doesn't stay consistent. it randomly varies all across the line.Secondly, other words and images, ie, a circle "0" will look almost like a star * . However, if you lay the copy on the platen you get a great copy.

To me this eliminates the scanner itself and the problem points to either the data cable or the board. Meaning that while in "HOME" position the cable is bent in such a way where the data transfer has issues, where as in a scanning action on the platen and the scanner is moving and out of "HOME"position the cable works fine.... ???

Has anyone out there faced a similar issue with this copier?? I'd like some feedback from the other veteran techs here who work on this machine consistently before I start asking my client to continue to pay for parts that I'm only relatively sure are the problem.

This anomaly is not consistent with a guide problem whereas the paper gets skewed or anything. it is actually traveling perfect through the auto-document feeder without any problems. it's also not a jerky or sporadic movement either. It seems to have a very smooth and consistent pull through the document feeder and maintains a complete straight angle through the entire pull. Also, it happens on EVERY copy that it pulls through. Whether there is only one original or a stack of them. And, the originals all have a close resemblance in skew, however the anomalies in the lines and the circles, etc are all slightly in different areas and distortions can vary greatly between copies.

Thanks in advance for any help......

Can you scan an image for us to view? Also what version is the software for the main body and the scanner?

I would check out the scanner again, move it manually over to the left and feel for anything dragging or catching. I had a e 520 do something similar and it turned out to be the scanner wire spool hitting the frame of the copier when the scanner moved over to copy from the ADF, and causing different CQ issues every time.

Have you re-aligned the ADF and maybe check for any obstructions in the ADF paper path.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

re-check the scanner... tho doesnt feel right... if the scanner was stuck... bent etc it would make an uniform skewing (scanner itself isnt defomed or anything if it was the case it should do it from the flatbed too... left side is kinda straight, right side way off... to me it seems the original is not fully against the slit glass... i see some suspicious shadows there... as if the original is "bent" and away from the glass... and the scanner ofc sees it skewed/shadowy

I would say to check the ADF adjust in the back. I have a similar problem, and it was because the ADF was to near of the glass and the sheet beat on one side causing that.
