[Jamming] e-studio 280 Jamming with E140 error code

Hi,
I've got an estudio 280 that has started to jam from the lower drawer only (only 2 drawers).
TopAccess say the error code is an E140.

The paper, oriented either way, will only make it to just before the drum before the paper stops feeding and the error occurs.

The paper from the top drawer has no problems.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to rectify?

Whats the count on the 2nd cassette feed rollers? E140 indicates paper not reaching the 2nd transport sensor.

Make sure you have set the cassette correctly in user tools as well.

Thanks for the reply but I'm afraid I don't know how to get that count. Could you advise and I will let you know.

I'm not familiar with the user tools either, is that the 05 menu? - Please note that the tray has been working correctly for 6 months.

(I should have stated my expertise is not in copier repair, however I've had a lot of contact with the e-studio 230 and 280.)

Confirm the size and orientation of the paper n the cassette. Then press
USER FUNCTIONS----USER----DRAWER----
Then select your 2nd cassette and set the paper size and orientation. NB. If you're not sure about orientation, A4-R = Landscape. A4 =Portrait.

Ah yes I am familiar with the user functions menu, yes the orientation of the paper is correct and matches the settings in the user menu.
NB: I have tried:
- Changing paper from A4-R to A4 (and the setting in the user menu)
- Swapped entire drawer with the upper drawer (and the setting in the user menu)
In both these cases, the jamming was the same.

Next step.
Power machine up holding down START & 9.
Machine displays LIST PRINT.
Key in 103
Press START.

This will output a list with all of the machines PM parts and their expected yeild.

Hold down ENERGY SAVER to shutdown copier.

Assume is not a word in my vocabulary. But yes you are correct. I'd get both 1st and 2nd rollers replaced before I went to much further. Expected yield doesn't necessarily mean the rollers will make that exact amount. Time is also a factor.

You are getting very close to calling a tech.

Ah thanks so much for all the help.

I guess I will replace both the feed rollers and see what happens.

If I swapped the feed rollers between both the cassettes, would the error most likely then transfer to the other cassettes so I could confirm the fix before I order the parts?

Correct. Even better, swap the entire feed units. Just remove both cassettes and you will see a round cut-out on the right hand side of the frame (was covered by the cassettes when they are installed.) That cut-out is to allow you to remove one screw which is the only screw holding the feed unit in place. There is a little bit of swearing the first time removing and installing these units. Just remember when you reinstall them, if they locators line up and so does the screw hole, the unit should stay put if it is in correctly. If it drops down, even slightly, the unit is not correctly installed with the connector and locating pins in the rear of the machine.

Clean any paper dust from the unit and sensors also.

Having said that, your 1st cassette feed unit is passed its yield so this may well be poor fault finding.

Well I swapped over the feed units and the error still only occurs from the bottom tray.
Could there be another cause for this error?

Of course there could be many more causes. Call a tech mate, this could go on forever.
