C970 is caused by the charge wire vibrating. There ware some mods from Toshiba - new end block covers and a heavier spring. You can just bend the brass hanger slightly to put more tension on the wire but you will most likely need to replace the wire and grid as well.

I used dampers on the charge wire to stop the vibration, I can get the part number if you need. Also you could try to re wire the charger yourself instead of using the toshiba ones provided in the pm kits. Make sure its the charge wire fitted to, some people fit a trans/sep wire instead.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

Also if problem persists after working on the primary charge unit and ruling it out, check the contacts at rear frame for the primary corona unit and make sure they are making good contact, bend the alignment tab for proper contact, also tighten the contact screws.
Check T/S corona unit as well, a broken T/S wire will also throw a C970.

make sure all coros and end blocks are clean, and that the wires aren't shorted. If that fails I usually have clear nail varnish in my tool kit. I'll take off the end blocks andinspect them, if there's any discolouration, I varnish the bottom and sides of the block, it provides a further level of insulation and stops shorting through the blocks. It'll last for ages.
