Usually either the daughter card on lgc pwb or the finisher pwb. If this has a punch unit that could be the culprit. And yes it could be bad firmware but doubtful. I would also check wall power. TECO is not the best on power.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

have you heard of this solution?
Toshiba E Studio Error code C580 is communication problem between IPC board and finisher unit.

The ipc pcb and the main pcb on the finisher are not matching up.

If you are installing new finisher it has to match: the ipc pcb and the chip on the finisher,
      set 08-1912 to "0" or "1".

its not a new finisher, but we get equipment from all over and mabey these two were not together initially....

        Has 08-1912 fixed it?

In my limited knowledge of Toshiba (estudio2500) 08-1912 if set wrong will generate a c580 all the time and not work intermittently as you describe but then its a different model...

no the 1912 was set correctly, so im guessing its either the finisher board or the onboard board.LOL im going to replace the finisher.
