MJ-1024 Saddle Stitch Finisher for 451C - Saddle stich tray part number

    Hi everyone,

thanks heaps for all the great posts that everyone has contributed to this forum. I have been reading a fair bit here and was able to fix my F105 error on my 451C in minutes. This would have been impossible without this forum.

Anyway, the last peice of the puzzle that I would "like" (not need - none of this I need... need... need.. stuff lol) to complete my machine is a missing part on the saddle stitcher. I have the MJ-1024 saddle stitcher, and it has the two blue output trays + the white swinging wheel arm below them. The only thing that seems missing is the actual saddle stitch tray. At a guess, the tray went missing in transit over the long journey this machine has had. It would seem that the finisher is complete besides this part.

I could live without it, but seeing the rest of the hardware is there, it would be nice to have the tray if I could chase one down..

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where he best place would be to look for such a part second hand please? Or is this something that would be best sourced dirrectly from Toshiba? Lastly, an internet search didnt seem to bring any of these trays to light, so was wondering if anyone had the actual part number for me please? I might have more luck searching for the part number instead.

I have only created a few posts on this forum so far, and can understand if help is not deserved till help given first. I will ask politely anyway, and hope for the best. Reply or not, I am still very thankful for all the learning gained from this community so far. As i grow in knowledge, and find the opportunity, I shall return the favour at every possible opportunity..

Keep up the good work guys..

    thanks again,

    John.

Re: MJ-1024 Saddle Stitch Finisher for 451C - Saddle stich tray part number

Another question I have about the saddle stitch tray is its purpose.. It doesnt have any cables connected to it or any elctrical components within it right?

So is it purely to store the output stitched booklets? Is the stop at the end important, as in does the tray server the purpose of limiting the stop length of the document so as to get the staple in the right spot?

I pretty much want an idea of what it actually does so that i can think about improvising and making something up to replace it.

I cant even find a clear photo of the tray front on (as in from the side of the finisher).. All the photos on the internet seem to shoot more from the front of the copier, thus only showing a side view of the saddle stitcher tray.

Anyway, I think I am going to have to just try outputting 1 document through the saddle stitcher, and wait near the output slot to see what happens. I am guessing that a smooth platform at the right height, with an adjustable stopper slide might be able to replace an original part.

Any comments / advice most welcome..

    Thanks,

    John..

p.s. if anyone has a clear photo of the saddle stitcher tray, that would be awesome too..

I don't have the part number handy, but I can tell you that the tray is just a basic catch for the finished document. It doesn't assist with aligning, it just catches the saddle-stitched document. I think on that model it has a spring loaded stop, so that as more documents come out the initial ones get pushed forward. I'll see if I can get you a part number on Monday.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

        Thanks heaps for that mate...

That has given me the confidence to go out and give it a test without the tray right now.. I will catch the document by hand, and if it all works well, I reckon I might be able to make something that will serve the purpose..

A part number may still up my chances at tracking down an orignal tray online.

        Much appreciated,

        John..

Update: the saddle stitcher did an awesome job. I caught the booklet as it came out, so you were spot on about the trays purpose. I will still try to find an original, (will even ask toshiba if they still stock them and how much.) but if all else fails, i am sure i can rig something up to do a reasonable job.. (what i wish i could find is a photocopier wrecking yard, like automobile wreckers..)..

        Thanks again..

        John.

Re: MJ-1024 Saddle Stitch Finisher for 451C - Saddle stich tray part number

Wow.. that was defintitely all the info I need to identify the saddle stitch tray parts.

Thank you very much for that guys..

the tray that you pictured Mr Spock is certainly what I am missing. In fact it is every part in that picture. Not only will the part numbers assist in me sourcing the items, but if I cant get hold of them, or they are too costly to be worth buying, the pic will give me a better idea what to build in its place.

I will also keep my eye open (and search the internet high and low) for a second hand replacement saddle stitch tray complete. WIth any luck there will be a broken MJ-1024 laying around someones back room that still has a good tray.

I tested the MJ-1024 unit last night, and it worked well.. Both high and low stack trays move with no errors, and the unit performed stapling, folding and saddle stitching without a glitch. the hole punching unit works well too. Once i cleared the F105 using 08-690, and removed a fairly charred paper jammed deep in the copier, the unit has been perfect.

Thank you very much again for your help guys...

                Much appreciated,

                John.
