    While I await by developer, is there a way to turn off the pattern test so I can just print in b/w.

      You can disable IQC by changing these codes, needless to say turn them back after you replace that developer.

      (08)556 default is 1, change to 0
      (08)557 default is 1 change to 0
      )08)4546 default is 5 change to 0

          Just to finalise this thread, yes it was the developer as most of you suggested.

          Replacing the developer rectified the problem.
