You won't just need one that is pre-formatted, but one with matching firmware on it as well.

The Toshiba e-Bridge machines write firmware to both the HDD and the boards within the machine. If the firmware on the boards don't match the firmware on the HDD, then you are going to run into problems.

Manuals4You might have firmware for that machine which means you could just buy a drive locally. While he might not give up the firmware for free, chances are that it will still be cheaper buying the firmware and a HDD lcoally than getting one shipped to you with the correct firmware pre-written.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Have already purchased firmware from him. The HDD I have has been wiped. Am I just screwed?

You can use just about any stock HDD in these machines, but you must make sure that you go through Assist Mode and perform all three functions. From there, you might want to do an HDD format and then install the firmware.

Make sure that the firmware that you have is not older than the version already installed as Toshiba Devices don't like going backwards at all.

Try a different USB stick and make sure that it is definately formatted in FAT and NOT FAT32 or NTFS.

Toshiba devices are very picky when it comes to reading USB drives so it might take a couple of different drives before you find one that works.

                What have you done exactly?

It's better if you say that you have done what is suggested and anything else that you have also tried.

3+clear. all 3 options... several times.
put 256mb usb drive formatted FAT with mentsub.o and folder 352_452 in root
tried this on a couple of different usb drives. also partitioned drives down to 128mb. still no dice.
I'm getting "please set correct usb storage" on startup with 4+9
Get "no hdd data" on normal startup and starting in 08

Have you tried another USB drive?

You can actually place all the files directly into the root of the USB drive with out needing any folders.

The USB drive definately won't work if it is patitioned. I know for a fact that 2GB and 4GB Kingston drives work and have even found 8GB drives that work. It is the luck of the draw as to if the drive will actually work or not.

I'm with TheOwl here, many times, when using larger USB's the machine just doesn't see the firmware or it seems to time out while searching for it until u remove the files from 352_425 folder and delete the empty folder. In other words place all the files in the root of the USB including the mentusb file.

Yep, you need an older USB Key about the same age of the Machine, have the Key formatted in FAT and have the correct F/W for THIS model, with the Folder AND a copy of the MENTUSB.0 - ONLY in the Root directory of the Key - then perform 4+ 9 P/on, it should work............. if you have swapped System PCBs etc you could be pushing shit uphill.

Previous owner may have swapped sys boards but I doubt it. Tried 4+9 with just mentusb and with mentusb plus hard files, not the folder. Still no dice. Any other suggestions?
