    e studio 200l Scanner

    My department inherited an e studio 200l. I would like to enable the scanning feature and purchased a GM-2030 enabler and connected the machine to a desktop pc with a printer usb cable where the scans would be stored. I turned the machine on with the enabler inserted but can't access the scan button/ won't turn green. I'm testing it out on a macbook where it shows up as a printer but no scan functions. What is the procedure to activate the function? Is there something I need to do in the service menu? Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Edit: Do I need the network interface card? I just want to use the printer usb cable.

      That's because the enabler you are using is the "Print" only...you have to fine a scan enabler to go along with it..There is a dual enabler and if you can find one remove the print enabler and install the dual. Emujo

          Which enabler would I need? I researched and found that the gm 2030 print/scan was the right enabler.

              Is that a USB connection you have going into copier ?

                  It is. Its a printer USB cable connected to the Mac. Shows up as printer, no scan options though.

                      The GM2020 or GM2030 is the correct print/scan enabler. So if the scan light doesn't illuminate then you've been sold the wrong enabler.
                      Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

                          The e200L copier is the same discontinued model series as the e230/e280. Simply inserting a GM2020/ GM2030 dongle into the copier does not guarantee successful print/scan functionality.

                          Chances are you need to have the firmware upgraded in the copier to V4006 before anything successful will happen. Depending on how old the firmware is on this copier, this can be a cumbersome two step process involving pre-install firmware.

                          By trying to connect to a Mac via a USB cable you are tripling the likelihood that this copier will not connect as it really was not designed for the configuration you described.

                          You need to dial back the challenge a few notches and try to first connect to a Windows PC via an ethernet cable.

                          You are going to need to hire a trained technician to help you with this install. Be prepared for 2-3 hours of billable labour as the process has by known been forgotten by most technicians.

                          When you are done, you may find that this copier does not support the latest levels of Mac OSX as the copier was discontinued more than five years ago.

                                      Apologies...I misread the FYI site..the GM 2030 is indeed print/scan enabler...Is the GM2030 clearly etched on the side of the dongle? If nothing is factory stamped there you may have the wrong enabler...I agree with the poster regarding firmware...Emujo

                                          This model needs a nic card (only one in this series that does not come with it standard).
                                          Scanning is only via network not usb. Usb is for printing only. You will only need version 300 or higher to scan but If you are using vista or higher then goto v4006 or you will have other issues.
                                          I have tried to forget more than most remember about this machine.
                                          And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
