    [Error Code] e Studio 550 code E18

I have an e-Studio 550 that I'm trying to get cleaned/working again after not being used for nearly 3 years.

Whenever I try to make a copy or print, it complains of a misfeed (found E18 code with clear+8), but I cannot find any pieces of paper in any of the feed units or in the trays. I looked in the service manual, but could not find any troubleshooting steps for E18. I also tried swapping two of the feed units to see if the issue was in the feed unit itself, but that did not help.

Also, before it was taken out of service, it had a toner cartridge leak inside of it and get toner everywhere. I've been cleaning it up with paper towels and rubber gloves but I do not know of a better way seeing as I do not have a toner vacuum. Suggestions?

The 3M vacuum is the way to go, but if you don't have the $500, a package of Chicopee Stretch-N-Dust will help out a lot. These cloths have some sort of static attractant in them that absorbs fine dust like toner and holds it. When it seems like it won't hold any more, stretch the cloth and it will take more. Results for STRETCH-N-DUST

Definitely never use an ordinary vac or especially a shop vac. The filter won't catch the 1um (1 micrometer) toner particles, and it will simultaneously seize the vacuum motor, and redecorate the room.

E18 is a misfeed from the tandem LCF (bottom drawer, tray #3), so switching around tray #1 and tray #2 feed assemblies will have no affect. If it were me ... I would print off 9S-106, and 9S-103 reports. 106 will show you the jam codes. 103 will show you the number of feeds on the various maintenance parts.

Perhaps you're looking in the service manual, when what you really need is a service handbook. Page 2-8 (24 in the pdf) talks about the List Print mode 9S. Page 2-1 (17 in the pdf) talks about jam E18. That should get you started.

That comment about reading the manual was a mark in your favor. Keep reading the manuals. They do have all the answers when you add in some of your own genius. The key is knowing what the manual can give you and what it can't: The manual can tell you to look in the vicinity of the cassette feed sensor, and where to look for it. What it doesn't tell you is whether it's caused by a peeled off label, or a worn tire, or a snagged mylar, or a paper cut in a guide fin, or a door that doesn't close properly. Page 9-1 of the service manual (125 of the pdf).

Also keep in mind that the writers of these manuals first language is either Chinese or Japanese. The translations to North American English can be entertaining, and confusing. Only rarely do they make no sense at all. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You definately need a vacuum cleaner but if Toner is scattered through the machine clean the pickup/feed,separation & transport rollers with alcohol & a rag, this may determine if you can actually produce a print and also the CQ, as blackcat suggested, a PM report will assist.

I just tried to print off 9S-103 and 9S-106, however I got an E13, E14, and E18 when I tried to have it print from the 1st/2nd cassettes and the LCF which makes me think it's something other than all 3 feed sensors being bad/covered by something. I pulled out and cleaned all 3 of the feed rollers and put them back but it didn't change anything.

I followed through the troubleshooting steps for E13/E14(pg. 5-16/5-17) but the feed sensor and feed clutch are working in both of the feed rollers. I also checked to see if the cassette was being detected and if the tray would raise up, Both of them seemed to function properly.

One thing that I noticed was that when running, the intermediate transfer rollers had almost no torque. I could hear the motor spinning, but the rollers would spin very slowly and if I touched one, it would stop.

Starting to think there's more wrong with this copier than I thought.

          I tend to agree.

You might examine the drive to the vertical path rollers. Have you tried feeding from the sheet bypass? =^..^=
