I have a E712 error on my 4520C when make a copy but paper go's compleet through and make aswell the copy but then must open and close the upper unit to get the LCD in normal view.

I have a manual which say 03-[FAX]ON/[7]/[H]) to check sensors but when push Fax on then nothing happens.
When I push the start button I see A/B/C etc....
The manual is not quiet clear how to read out when you push 7 ?

Once you're in 03 mode and "Wait" has gone away, press Start. You'll press Fax to make the fax function LED illuminate. Hold the "7" button. While holding "7" you can observe the state of the sensor you desire, in this case "H". Dark with white letter is actuated. White with dark letter is not-actuated. Use your other hand to operate the desired switch to see the change of state on the screen. When you're done press Clear twice, then hold the energy save button until you get 5 beeps and the machine shuts off.

    Was that clear? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Try running various sizes of paper to see if any will run without giving you the error code. I have had the length sensors in the original tray,
and the width sensor give me a similar error

Blackcat your reply was very usefull, the following results you guys find below when I push only number 7 and RADF cover is closed.

        B = active
        rest is off

When I activate number 1 on the photo nothing happens
When I activate number 2 on the photo nothing happens
When I activate number 3 on the photo H activates
When I activate number 4 on the photo A activates
When I activate number 5 on the photo nothing happens ( maybe this is B ? )
When I activate number 6 on the photo C activates ( cover )

        4520c.jpg

in the manual I have here no explanation which sensor is where.....
I will check with A3 and more thick paper. ( I did no difference )

          Re: ES 4520 E712 error

Problem solved ! I checked why the B (S3) was turned on in machine rest position.
The arm which must activate B was not reach good enough the Photo diode (sensor ) Reason: The little metal frame with the intake rollers was not mounted proper in the lowered black plastic plate.

I found after a long search the manual for the RADF here

I bought the machine on a auction and possible some engineers could not fix it after a repair I think.
          The 4520C runs perfect !

I'm a happy bunny now. Thanks guys for your help.
