    toshiba 450 developer problems

We've been battling this problem for a while now.On multiple machines, the developer goes light, has grey background,or both prematurely. usually 10,000 pages or less.Often I'll find a toner coating on the drum and toner spewed out on the mag roller side and inside the machine.
We've used new & rebuilt units, everything cleaned out & replaced if needed,& checked adjustments on the machine.Nothing changes significantly.Occasionally 05-201 will darken it up some, but rarely. When I do 05-201,I find the % number way lower then it's supposed to be.Why would it be losing bias?
When the dev.mix is changed, all is good until it decides to go light or grey again.
We've been chasing this around for a while,I wonder if anyone out there has any insight to this unusual issue, and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

If the toner is OEM ... you might take a look at the developer bias contact under the dev unit. I have seen where techs have stretched the contact but straightened it some. The result is that it snags on the insulating holder, and leaves a gap. So keep in mind that the contact should have an "S" shape, and should spring back up when you press it down. Does that make sense? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Have you examined the plastic case that is under the dv unit in the copier? That plastic case has a metal terminal screwed into it. The terminal provides your dv bias to your dv unit. Toshiba put out a service bulletin about that plastic case cracking causing bias to be bled off to ground. Good luck.

@LarryTech. You wouldn't happen to have a copy of that bulletin somewhere? I've gone through all the Canadian bulletins and its not there.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

At one time I had it handy because we had so many e35, e45, e350, e450s that we were always ordering that part. If I were able to find it again, do you want the bulletin itself or just tell you the part number? I can find the part number easier than the bulletin. If you really need the bulletin, I will dig in as soon as I can.

Please send me an e-mail address if you need the actual bulletin. I will try to look for it asap.

Whatever is easier for you. The part number would be fine. Thanks for your help!
