[Misc] Toshiba estudio 167 asking for paper put into document feeder when there is no ADF

I have a customer with a Toshiba 167. The copier has a flat top, no ADF or RADF. Each time after the customer copies an ID card, the machine has a message appear "insert paper in document feeder". When the message appears the machine won't copy anything. The message only cleared after I ran a few 04 test modes and it copied fine after that unless you copied an ID card, after which the message would reappear and the machine would stop copying. The customer claims the copier never had an ADF installed.

If you don't mind I'll speculate:

Speculation #1: You are basing your observations on customer reports but have not been on site.
Speculation #2: Your enduser got some of the screen message correct, but not quite all of it. It probably said something like "Load XXX paper to the bypass tray."
Speculation #3: Your enduser has not selected card shot, but should do so. Non-standard sized originals on the glass (like ID cards) will prompt the enduser to "Load XXX paper to the bypass tray." When card shot is selected, the default paper tray will be used.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Toshiba estudio 167 asking for paper put into document feeder when there is no AD

I only wish the speculations fit the situation. I did go to the site when the message first appeared. I usually work on Sharp and a few Ricoh machines. This little Toshiba is not by normal repair. I only posted this question because the message on the machine made such little sense. History of this machine is sketchy, it may have had a document feeder at some time in it's life.

The message appears after the machine has fully completed copying the id card, both the front and back of the card. The copy of the id is complete. The weird message appears when you open the flat top and are placing a new original of any kind on the glass. The machine does nothing, but display a message "insert paper in document feeder". I tried using the bypass tray. The message only cleared after I entered and exited adjustment modes. The message always comes back up after the end user uses ID Card Mode. Always after leaving ID Card Mode, the copier refuses to return to default mode.

The things I have not tried:
      Installing a document feeder
      Replacing anything on the machine

So the machine does not default back to it's home settings? Have you checked the panel timeout settings, and tried to change the value? Typically it will be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. This seems like one of those times that firmware might be in order. System firmware is currently at: T286SYxW240. Maybe that will help. =^..^=
