    Xerox 1000 Fuser grinding

Am experiencing problems with the fuser of ours again. At first we started hearing a grinding noise at the back of the fuser where the motor is located, especially if the machine is starting up. The motors are still while the lamps heat up the fuser and then the fuser motor starts to turn, quite fast at first and then slows down again. When it turns fast it makes the terrible grinding sound. The machine was still printing well for quite some time.

Last week all ground to a stand still as we heard the grinding sound again and then it got very loud and we ended up with error 010-310. upon inspection we found the bog gear damaged on the fuser side, which we replaced with a new one. A friend of ours from Zambia who also has a Xerox 1000 had the same issue and told us to check all the bearings of the heat rollers as these get worn and then there is a speed discrepancy (hence 010-310) and this will cause damage. We replaced nearly all the bearings except the one of the top heat roll which can not be replaced, but these seem fine as the roll turns freely. We refitted all and the same grinding returned in no time.

I removed the motor, replaced also a worn bearing in it, cleaned it and also cleaned and replaced bearings on the gear between the motor and big fuser gear. The grinding sound is still there and in mean time we also managed to tear the fuser belt in the process of finding the fault.

The grinding is more pronounced at the back of the fuser where the motor is but one can not pinpoint it.

    Any thoughts?

    Regards
