Xerox DocuColor 242 intermittent dead screen

I have a DocuColor 242 that has a control panel that is intermittently (actually: most of the time) not working. When the customer starts the machine the screen usually stays blank. The customer is able to send print jobs, which the machine actually prints. When he switches the machine off, and on right away, the screen is functioning, showin 'please wait while the machine powers off'. But the screen is blank again when he starts the machine from power off state. Only after 15 po/po's he will be lucky and have a functioning screen.

I have replaced so far:

• control panel assy
• cable between control panel assy and UI PWB
• UI interface PWB
• ESS PWB

I'm thinking maybe ESS NVM PWB or power unit, but as the customer is located kind of far away, I'm trying to get it right away this time. Any other suggestions?

Tricky one. This was a common issue when this line first came out. The "Fire Wire" that goes from the UI to the machine has to be the replacement Fire Wire and not any generic. Sounds like maybe a loose wire connection within the FireWire or the plug on the board. If the plug on the board is loose or cockeyed in anyway from straight, replace the board. Just make sure the Fire Wire is the actual replacement. If you are with Xerox you can order directly or can utilize some one like Parts Drop in NJ or Item Inc in Woodbridge VA,

Replace 160K97893 UI PWB

DC242 do not have fire wire.

I wasn't aware the DC242 had firewire either?

And thanks for the suggestion but UI PWB has already been changed...
