[Electrical] Work centre 7830 blank display and all lights on

I don't usually work on xerox but it has been very slow for me.

I had a look at this machine yesterday and re-seated connectors on what appears to be the main board. Pulled out the
network board assembly. Dis-connected the pedestal feeder and doc fdr. Checked the battery voltage on that board. It's
reads 3.123vdc. Check the reset button by the power cord and pressed the reset on the network board.
None of these things helped. When the power comes up the only thing that comes on is a small fan in the back. No motors
and all the lights on the control panel are on. No beeps when the buttons are pushed. I did pull the control panel and had
a look but did not take it apart.
I did see something on the internet about using an alt boot. It's my understanding that the machine may be able to boot from
the usb. And this would indicate a bad HDD. I also saw where it may be possible to get the firmware right off the xerox website.

Am I on the right track?

I don't have a manual and would like to have one.
And I don't have a source for parts on this machine.
    Any help would be helpful.

    Thanks

    DR

Put the .DLM file on a USB in a folder called "altboot" also create a text file with no extension called "FORCED_UPGRADE" inside the altboot folder.

Thank you for that info. I will try to find the firmware next.

Anyone got a book I could borrow for this machine?

      Thanks

        InterfaceP,
I have a 1gig thumb drive and I have unzipped the firmware and clone folders inside the altboot folder. I don't understand
how to create a file without an extension?
I used word pad to create a file named forced_upgrade and it put the txt extension on the file. I always thought every file
needed an extension to indicate the program needed to open it.

As you may have guessed my computer skills are kinda dull.
I did see something on the internet about a "0" file. But now I can't find it.

        Thanks

        DR

Check small led display at back side of machine.
Post here letter or number which you have on display.

              Xcopytech,
I did see this machine today and the display shows the number 5. I saw where it indicates the SD card
could be at fault. It has been re-seated with no change.
I also looked at the SBC bd LED's.
CR4 the heartbeat is on and pulses slow, when the soft switch is on it is slightly faster.
CR8 and 10 are both on steady and so is CR5. All lights are green.
Those are the only LED on the SBC bd that are on.

It sez the boot code resides on the SD card.
I have an usb (1G) I'm not sure it is set up correctly. I'll post more later.

              Thanks

              DR

If you have code 5 and your display is blank (white) then you have to replace SD card and altboot machine.

                  Xcopytech,
This SD card is it something special or can I just get one from Frys electronics? I'm concerned about the altboot set up on the thumb drive.
I have a folder on the drive named altboot.

Inside altboot folder is a folder named workcentre7830-35-sw07201000409100 and a notepad file
                  called forced upgrade.

Inside the workcentre 7830-35-sw07201000409100 folder is another folder named clone patch and two other file's named
                  snmp.dlm and workcentre 7830-35-sw#07201000409100#

Inside the clone_patch folder are two files one is a read me and the other is clonefixvl.dlm

                  Does that sound right?

                  Thanks

Re: Work centre 7830 blank display and all lights on

Just create folder called altboot and put dlm file in.
7830-35 dlm file and notepad file forced upgrade.
Dlm file must be in altboot folder.
You have to buy sd card from xerox.
                    First try altboot

No need to altboot after replacing SD card. chances are SD card is corrupt instead of faulty so can be re-imaged.

PM me your email and i'll send you SD card image for this machine and win32 disk imager, you may need something like minitool partition wizard (free) to format the card first to make it readable by windows. Wouldn't hurt to have a spare card though, 4GB or 8GB will be fine.

Thank you everyone for your help. I mentioned to the customer that the code pointed to the SD card.
So he ordered one from xerox and installed it and that fixed it.
I was really hoping to have to download the firmware just for the experience. But the machine is up and
running and I still get to bill them for a couple of hours.

Richard.xerox looks like I am going to service this machine so you are right it would be handy to be
able to deal with this kind of stuff.

Thanks again everyone, nice to know that I'm not alone.

I saw this machine the other day to get meter readings and to check the copy.
                          The copy is good.
It does display this message, "Immediate job over write failed, perform an on demand over write immediately"
Then it gives the IP address.
I',m guessing it has something to do with not storing jobs on the HDD.
Does it need a firmware upgrade?

                          Thanks

Check in administation mode/tools/security settings for image overwrite option.
                            If option missing, altboot machine.
