xerox colorqube 8700 paper size keeps changing

I haven't had to worry about fixing these since the tektronix & early phaser days. The original problem I had to deal with was replacing a cracked maintenance cam shaft, missing cleaning blade, & realigning the drive gears. All was successful. When powered up it printed the starting cleaning pages & all the tests I wanted.

I brought it back to the customer & when it powered up, it wanted to print the cleaning pages on A4 & nothing I could do would change it's mind. The panel screen wouldn't show any other setting but A4. I couldn't find any menu settings through the panel or web page saying cleaning pages had to be run on A4. Eventually I cut legal into A4 & it finally ran the cleaning pages without jamming. Then it went back to showing the tray had 8 1/2 x 11. Printed tests & jobs no problem.

Since then I've been called back a couple times because the paper keeps stopping on cleaning pages expecting A4. Got past this both times, then it seemed to recognize Lt. I noticed a few times it didn't recognize Lt right away until I open & shut the tray firmly. I don't know why it does it now when it didn't at the shop.

I suspect maybe the paper size sensor might be flaky. I wonder if any of you that are more familiar with these can think of anything else I might be missing. I thought of flashing the firmware, but the website didn't have a download button & recommended only a system administrator should do it. I don't know if being a mac had anything to do with it.

I'd like to thank those of you for your consideration.

check if the paper size switch board (behind the tray) is not dislodged, like a wild guess check also bypass to be set to letter, default paper is letter, default units are inches and no sim is installed back.

If it is asking for A4 paper and it won't print because it actually sees Lt. in the tray, then it seems like more of a software problem than a flaky sensor. I take it you do have units in inches not metrics? If so, it's probably best too reinstall software with altboot (USB stick)
