A customer has a WorkCentre 7970 that makes an awful high pitched noise when it enters sleep mode. The noise seems to be coming from the SBC area, but it is not the SBC or hard drive. I have another 7970 in storage that has the exact same problem, so it may be common... Wanted to attach a movie but can't seem to upload anything but the long gone avi format...

Re: WorkCentre 7970 high pitched noise when entering sleep
I think I have narrowed it down to the SUB LVPS 105E20940, which it should share with the 78xx series. I have one for salvage so will try that out and keep you posted. -
Re: WorkCentre 7970 high pitched noise when entering sleep
Well it seems the high noise is coming from the SBC after all. But I am not sure it is actually the SBC that is the problem. I have tried 2 new ones and the both make the same sound. Could it be any of the power boards is causing the SBC to make such a noise? If so, any idea which one? I am low on spares and hesitant to just start exchanging parts.Comment

Re: WorkCentre 7970 high pitched noise when entering sleep
I have so far tested 3 7970 machines and they all have the exact same problem. So it does seem it is very common. I do not have access to Xerox bulletins... Do any of you have so and if yes, could you check if there is any mention of this?Comment

Re: WorkCentre 7970 high pitched noise when entering sleep
i had one as well, I replaced every board, nothing fixed it, so we replaced the machine. I also had a Konica with a similar issue. figured out it was a section of the wire harness (probably a pinched wire). as soon as we figured that out, we replaced the machine. we didnt bother re wiring the machine. we routed a new harness outside the frame to test it.
Xerox has a problem with zip ties on the wires being way too tight. i've repaired so many harnesses that were cut by the ties.Comment

Woah hard to believe a pinched wire can actually cause that, crap... Sold the machine for a hefty price so that's bad news.Comment

Electrical issues cause all sorts of weird problems. Those zip ties will break the wire inside the sheathing.Comment
