    [Misc] Xerox HDD wipes

I been asked to format HDDs on Xerox 5335P and 7835..I have never worked on Xerox, these are being replaced by Konica Minolta. Customer wants HDDs wiped by KM befor they leave the offce, but I want to ensure I don't make a huge mistake..

These machines need to go back to the leasing company, if HDD wipes render them useless (I believe Canon requires software reloaded, but KM does not) I do not want KM to do this. Would anyone be willing to provide the correct way to format these drives? (again not necessary if software/firmware must be reloaded as I have no way of getting it). TIA E

Both devices have encrypted HDD and secure image overwrite on by default. If this isn't enough, perform a forced ALTBOOT as per the manual.

Reminds me if the old "you must be an engineer" joke..I have a lot more data, but am no closer to a solution..
      1. I don't have a manual
      2. I need to know if the HDD format will prevent the machine from starting, thus I get a bill from the leaseing company for the machines being dead.
      3. Xerox is similar to KM's bizhub secure that overwrites and encrypts data sent and stored on the HDD, but for some customers the drive must be formatted to a specific standard. This is what I need to do..

I can probably google the ALTBOOT, but would appreciate the key sequence.

if I recalled correctly. do it at your own risk

        the steps are the following
        1. switch off the machine
        2. press and hold number 6, power saver button, and stop button.
        3. turn on the machine ( you may want to ask someone to help you turn on the machine).
        4. for me, i keep holding the button until the xerox logo comes on the screen.

Here I attach the special boot

Thanks for that..Does the HDD format require any software/firmware reload to make the device operable? E

Not that I'd know ... but both the HDD Initialize and HDD Format seem to read like they remove only user data and page data, leaving the machine operable. Just my opinion based on the text. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I agree, but, like in my normal KM world, some customers demand a HDD format to meet a certain securtity policy, or in some cases a DOD standard. Simply running the "erase stored docs" isn't enough. At this point I'm only trying to find out if doing a physical overwrite of the drive requires firmware to be re loaded. I have pretty much decide against it as my simple question doesn't seem to have an answer..E

If you remove hdd from machine and format it you have to reload machine system software.

Helpful, but as far as I can tell, it still does not answer the initial question. =^..^=
