    Fiery & Xerox issues

Our I.T. guy is about to pull his hair out. He has dealt with Fiery on Konica for YEARS and not had any issues with
them interfacing into the Konica machines.
But, since we took on Xerox about 2 years ago, he's just about to go nuts. Most of the issues are they drop communications
with the machine. It's like the fiery and the Xerox are two small kids that need to have their parents come take em behind
the woodshed and give em a stern "talking to".
Our I.T. guy has been to Toshiba & Konica "fiery" school. He said it's mostly 1 day on hardware and 4 days on how to change
the colors. He needs information on the "inner workings" of the communications between the Fiery & the Xerox machines.

Does anyone know of any "non sales" information, webinars etc he could access?

    TIA

I can't really help on the training side, but what machines/fiery combos are causing issues, and what exactly are the issues?

Xerox has firmware publically available on xerox.com but it has dozens of unofficial firmwares buried on some goofy, confusing, outdated site. Your machine may need one of those but you can't get them without tech id.

Yes xerox has special firmware for fixing many issues.
You should contact there support and seeing if there may be a firmware solution for your issue.

        Good luck

Probably needs a SPAR release of firmware, but as noted above you'll only get that from TSIP if you've got a tech ID and S3 account. I assume you are at the latest general release on the machine FW?

As to Xerox's actual Fiery training, it's pretty lame. For the most part it's just the basic Fiery courses over at EFI - Fiery 101, 110, 200, 210, 301. From there they suggest ponying up for some of EFI's more advanced courses.

We are a certified Xerox "partner". I've searched...can't really find anything specific.
The problem is pretty much ANY (according to our I.T.) firey

I'm not seeing any issues. I pretty much exclusively work production kit with Fiery controllers.

If I hit an issue with connectivity, it's usually either an NVM initialisation to get the fiery icon back, or a fiery reload. This is rare though. They mostly just work

you still have not said what xerox model or fiery model?
looses connection and then magically reconnects?

                  Re: Fiery & Xerox issues

Well, the one yesterday was a Primelink B9100 Yeah, and it's a b&w machine.
The customer has specialized stuff they print and need the fiery. Just checked on
E-automate, he updated the fiery, and applied 9 patches.

Another was a V80, wouldn't connect. Now that one, actually had a bad Fiery motherboard.
Another was a C60, wouldn't connect. Updated the fiery.
Another, was a V280, spectrometer wouldn't connect. Bad spectrometer.

I'm kind of seeing a pattern....updated firmware and perhaps it's just frustration.
I pulled the service history since January. It really doesn't look that bad.
I've just heard him complaining, thought I'd ask.
I don't know very much about them. One quick one. With the updates, once he said he
had to install 18 patches? Isn't there any way to auto update the fiery?

Sorry for the post...sounds like it was much ado about nothing.

the pattern might be your customer or IT person
I have hundreds of machines out there and none do what you mention
maybe the IT guy should loose his job
besides what do you need an IT person for the fiery anyway
also the fiery updates on a regular bases when there is an update

I tend to set auto update at 0300 or something, and it will do all the necessary reboots after each one, and be done by morning.

I've only ever had one fiery motherboard fail on me in my 16 years of doing this. I've never had a bad spectro.

                        Re: Fiery & Xerox issues

Between Patch and update are deferent.
update mostly are Plugin and it can be done by auto or manual, Patch should be done by manual install and download.
In fiery should be shown Error Led Code depends on fiery model you have.
You can join to EFI Fiery comunnity for webbinars, tell your spesified problem there.
Most of fiery issue are on HDD, try to connect the fiery (BUSTLED) on PC Monitor from VGA port to analyse the problem.
important to do is always doing clone image for any resons. you can restore the image to new hdd

                            more Fiery V80 antics
we've had years of communication issues with ours
and have managed to solve most of them
one of which was memory errors when updating the patches
cleaning the hard drive often and making more virtual memory in windows seven
solved it but now we are still stuck on a patch with 9to go
fit 102058633 to update the fiery api to 5.1.45.00

it goes through all the motions and and restarts but it doesn't install
part of me thinks it's already installed with a newer version but still showing up on the patch list

I don't know what to do with it
I haven't been able to find anything about this patch and what to do next

everything else works just fine so I just could ignore it and move on but none of our other machines had this problem with the patches
