    C8170

I just purchased a C8170 (40k total) and shows 'Scanner Calibration Error. Image Quality may be degraded' on the UI display. Are there some common things that should be done? The copies and prints look very sharp. Any ideas are appreciated.

Someone ran the Calibration routine and it errored out. Do you know if it was in a dirty environment originally? You may need to remove the platen glass and clean the optics. I my experience the scanner isn't sealed very well and dust seeps in. After cleaning it, run the Copy Calibration routine again. If it still fails, you may have a bad cable. Again, in a bad environment, or if the previous owner scanned a lot those flat cables don't hold up.

I should state that the hard drive was missing when I bought it. I did a fresh load of the newest 120. software. The optics looked clean, the prints and copies look great. I will remove the platen glass, clean/inspect the mirrors, run copy and print calibration and see what happens. This is my second C8170, still learning.
Should I run DC945, the IIT procedure?

I cleaned the optics, reset copy and print calibration, set copy and print calibration. It still had the message.
I did DC945 (except optical axis) and it cleared it.
