Xerox Phaser 7760 - ATC Sensor Failure 09-382

An old machine, I know... However, the machine gives the error code as stated in the title above & what I know from the customer is that they had fitted a new Cyan toner & then the error code appeared. I've followed the SM & removed & cleaned the dev unit, ATC Sensor & checked the toner delivery isn't blocked, etc. The brush on the mag roller appears the same as other dev units & no obstructions. I've gone into diagnostics & cleared the tech rep faults as described, but on power up the fault hasn't cleared. The only other thing that may be significant is the Cyan drum is over life, although no message to change it. I have experience of Panasonic Workio colour copiers & seem to remember they were also designed by Fuji. I know on them that if the drums were re-set at end of life & were used beyond, the aged drum would start pulling dev away from the mag roller & therefore depleting the dev. Wondering if this could be something similar or someone might know of a common fix?

did they do anything with the developer unit? I had an ATC error when, out of knowledge, cleaned (including removing the developer) the developer unit. Problem fixed when I've put back new developer (powder) into the unit. Else it could be that the ATC sensor (inside the developer unit) is broken and hence a replacement of the developer unit is required.

Thanks ATB, I did figure out what the problem was & have managed to repair the machine. The customer had purchased a compatible Cyan toner, which I suspect wasn't recognised by the machine & therefore still showed empty. They ran the machine until the toner in the Cyan dev unit was depleted & hence threw up the error code because the ATC Sensor was doing its job. I removed the Cyan dev unit & manually added a measured amount of toner from the Cyan toner cartridge. I then powered the machine on without a Cyan toner in & the machine then came to ready & prompted to fit a new Cyan toner, which I did with another new toner, which then showed as full.

I don't have the expertise to fully understand what happened but:
        1) thanks for sharing your feedback: it's always good to know wheter things got fixed and how compared to people who come asking for help and then don't care saying if suggestions they received worked or not
        2) keep us posted if it keeps working as expected. For the little knowledge I had, if there's no toner coming from the... toner, the printer shouldn't print hence there should be no lack of toner in the dev unit (but again: my knowledge on the topic is limited and I'm just assuming)

ATB, I only worked it out through reading the theory of operation in the SM. Because there's no add toner control sensor in the actual toner cartridge area, it's monitored by the ATC Sensor in the dev unit. When it reads a low level in the dev unit, the instruction goes to controller to add toner & so on.

I agree, it's really frustrating when fixes to problems aren't followed up on posts. Isn't that what the forum is all about?
