    Xerox Phaser 6250DP jamming...

More specifically the paper accordians just before the fuser intermittently. When the misfeed occurs, You can hear a different pitch to the sound from the fuser motor.

I have made a few observations:
    1) The fuser is intact (looking remarkably new, actually) and turns easily.
    2) The helical two-staged gear that drives the fuser is sharp-edged, but not yet jumping.
    3) The transfer unit drives off the same motor. Unfortunately I didn't think to check the amount of torque required to drive the transfer cleaning unit. I did think of this on the drive back to the office.

I have come to a few conclusions:
    1) Since there is a definite sound from the fuser motor the wiring is intact.
    2) That the fuser motor is probably not turning at all, during occurrances.
    3) The problem is probably the fuser motor or the engine controller board (or wherever resides the motor driver circuitry).

Is this a common problem? Can I get part numbers for these parts?
    Fuser Motor:
    Engine Controller:
Helical Two-Stage Coupler Gear (to fuser):

Have I missed something obvious? The machine is remarkably dirty, like brown waste toner strewn throughout the paper path. It just seems too dirty for a mere 155k prints, and serviced within the last 30 days (not me). =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There is a snippet on the Xerox website you can access (don't need to be a dealer or anything, regular xerox website)...in the search type 6250 and go to support/drivers section. Go to the knowledge base and in the jamming section, fuser jams. There you can download the snippet and it gives directions on how to upload it to the printer. I'm 100% positive this is the fix. If you have problems, let me know...I think I have the file on my service laptop if need be, I can e-mail it to you.

So for any of you that are as confused by that reply as I was, here is a slightly clearer description:

Apparently a "snippet" is a Xerox software patch that must be downloaded to the printer via the web interface.

        First, download the patch
Second, Open your browser, enter IP in the address bar then Enter. Select Print, then Download, then browse to the snippet. Submit.
Third, power Off/On to enable the new software.

I suspect that this has already been done. "The other tech has upgraded all the firmware...etc, etc, etc", but I suspect that it will do no harm to repeat the same steps.

I'm sorry you were unable to understand my post about searching on Xerox's website for the snippet... looks like you found the right area, but for others, here is the link: http://office.support.xerox.com/SRVS/cgi-bin/webcgi.cgi

I'm not sure if this snippet was ever added as part of a firmware upgrade or not, I know this file is a separe download...not found on the firmware page at the Xerox website. But it wont hurt to redo this snippet even if it has already been done. Did it fix your problem?

Thanks serviceman. I'm walking a delicate line with this customer. She is convinced that the other guy is incompetent, and I have studiously avoided giving any opinions on this subject. He has had nearly 6 months and a dozen visits (per the customer) to get it right.

I haven't tried the download yet. I just want have all my ducks in a row before presenting a solution to the customer.

Is it safe to assume that the fuser motor assy and driver board are not causing this problem?

My confusion about your post was that a "snippet" was some sort of bulletin, not a software patch. And the link spoke of registration jamming not fuser jamming, and gives no details exactly what the fix does. I am assuming that the patch corrects some defect in the motor driver portion of the firmware. Am I correct in this assumption?

I can't remember excatly what the deal was, but basically, the fuser wasn't starting on time, causing the jam. It isn't the fuser itself, just maybe the signal to the fuser was off, and this fixes that issue. When it jams and has the accordian jam...you close the door and then it has another jam in it right? Slid right up barley past the reg rollers? 9 out of 10 times, that was another symptom of this snippet working...the first sign was the noticable high pitch noise you said you were having right before the jam.

Keith- I'm sending you a free copy of the service and parts manual along with the fuser snippet. Keep an eye out for an email from yousendit.com

Thanks, serviceman. I got that good feeling about this one.

On arrival I couldn't get even a config report. Every page jammed. The snippet loaded without any difficulty (it works even better if you unzip the file before loading). Power Off/On.

The next 50 printed with no problems. Just to be safe (and because the jamming has been intermittent), I left the call open for a check-in, in about a week.

But like I said, I got that good feeling... =^..^=
