    3050 background

Among other possibilities, you may have dirty optics, a bad lamp, or bad lamp ballast board. Try opening the top section, remove the document glass, and clean the lamp, reflector, and lens. If the lamp is burned on the outer edges, the lamp may be your main suspect. It would be best to clean the under side of the lens as well. You can do this from inside the machine, or by removing the lens out of the top.

If you are seeing trailing lines off large dark areas, the developer may have become over-toned. Do you know how to judge the difference between over toned, and exposure related background? It is easiest to do with a test pattern that enables you to judge illumination levels.
