[Dead] Xerox 7346 wide format scanner

    Howdy!

This scanner is connected to the 8825 wide format printer.

The scanner is not positioning the document correctly at the beginning of the scan.

The unit passes all test except the sensor timing. When the front sensor is pushed down, the rollers operate forward for 2 seconds (should be 3 seconds). The rollers will not reverse unless the rear sensor is depressed before rollers stop going forward (should reverse with rear sensor after rollers have stopped). When reversed with the rear sensor, they stop after 1 second (should keep running until rear sensor is released).

If I get the scanner to index properly by inserting a document and manually pushing down the rear sensor before the rollers stop, it will bring up the start scan window and I can begin a scan. After feeding about 6 inches of the document, it will stop feeding and a jammed document error will come up.

I am thinking that it is a stall detect sensor and or wheel but I don't have a service manual for this unit.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Thank you!

I would suggest going back to the beginning. First, setting aside registration of the image, will the scanner successfully scan a document? If so, then your document switches may e functioning, and there is a different issue at work. A large number of issues with this particular model scanner often go back to the motor assembly. This assembly includes the stall detector you mentioned. It may be simpler to discuss your problem over the phone. Monday is going to be very busy for me. If it can wait until Tuesday, call me at 1-877-385-7792 x1.

It will not successfully scan anything. The display will read that it is ready then when you insert a document, it will run forward for 2 seconds, stop, and the display goes to not ready, remove document. I will call tomorrow. I am mountain time zone, what time is good for you? Thank you!

Are you referring to the diagnostic tools which are accessed through the 8825 interface display screen on the scanner? If so, the scanner passes all of those tests. But the stall detect failure software sounds like something different. I do not have access to that or the bulletins.

Sounds like a plan. From what you have described, it sounds like the problem is in the motor assembly. It could be the motor, motion sensor, or encoder wheel. Probably in that order. As far as calling me, I am on the east Coast. Any time after 7 AM your time is fine with me. Looking forward to speaking tomorrow.

Thank you Mr. Byrne and Copytechnet!

The problem was an improper line voltage being supplied to the controller board. A simple test with a digital multi-meter (I use a Fluke) and an adjustment of a potentiometer to correct the voltage and problem solved!

Because of our location in Northern Wyoming, it would have cost $600 just to get the closest service guys through the front door and no telling if they would have had the right answer. Carl and Copytechnet saved us a bundle!

                Many many thanks!
