I have 2 units (copier and printer version) from leasing company and they both exibit no display and no lights on op panel. Know for fact that hard drives in the controllers (Dell 755 small towers mounted on the side) were erased by leasing co. Is there a way for me to bring them back to life (except calling Xerox)?

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
You face at least two problems recovering these controllers:- The operating system and firmware are proprietary and need to be reloaded in a very specific fashion.
- Once the OS and firmware have been reloaded, the feature keys need to be re-installed on the controller in order to make them fully functional. This is accomplished in a specific process using a Xerox website, and information from the controller hardware.
- Once all this has been done, then you can power up the printer and test for proper operation.
We do this kind of work on a daily basis, and could perform all of the above for you at a very reasonable rate. If interested, contact me and I will be happy to help further.Comment

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
Thanks to everyone who reply to this, I appreciate your time and effort. After short search I was able to find a local Xerox "guru" and now have units up and running. Just to recap - without correct software and firmware present on hard drive of controller this type of machines will play "dead".Comment

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
Also have a 6204 resale, with a wiped controller, but I do not seem to have the right software for it.
The software I have seems to be a Linux distro of some sort, but I think the dells should run windows right?
Anyone able to supply the correct software for this machine?
Thanks

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
They Run Fedora (Linux Based OS) actually not windows. With these Accxes Controllers, if someone sends you the OS, you still need a "coupon code" to put into Xerox to get an OS activation key. I am sure also you will need the additional software ie. Scan to PC ,etc which those also require a "coupon code" to get an activation key. You will also need Firmware to load after the OS gets installed and Activated.
Hope This Helps.
Sorry for the bad news.Comment

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
Daan,
The controller for these Xerox systems use a version of Linux as the base OS. Then the Xerox firmware for the printer needs to be loaded. Finally, the OS feature key will be needed in order to make the controller functional.
If this controller came with the system, but has a wiped drive, one should be able to retrieve the keys from the Xerox feature key site. Otherwise, you will need the controller manual, a recovery CD, a serial connection to the controller, and the application to run on the PC.
We can reload the OS, firmware, and keys for a nominal charge plus shipping. cbyrne@goevergreen.netComment

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
Thanks for the clarification guys, The controller came with the 6204 yes, so should be able to retrieve the keys. The software i have seem to get stuck somewhere during the install, gets a big cross on the screen and just hangs, i think the cross is suppose to happen but it should move on, yet does not.
Thanks for the offer too technogeek, we are in europe, so shipping to the US isnt really ideal. But an option if i really cant manage to fix it myself.Comment

Re: Wide format 6204 plays dead
You are right, being in Europe certainly changes the dynamic.
As far as the HD recovery process, you should be monitoring progress through the serial port using the PuTTY application. That is small enough I can email it to you. I can also email you the section out of the manual that covers the recovery process. Drop me an email and I will send you what you need.Comment
