Riso GR1700 Ink cyliner is stuck

Can anyone suggest a way to remove an ink cylinder that is stuck in a color drum on the RISO GR1700. It's totally jammed. We're trying to pull it out with pliers but it won't budge. It's actually not even in all the way as the green clip that holds it in cannot get over the cylinder edge.

    Thanks
    Kevin

I can only suggest to use pliers on either side at the same time so you are pulling evenly. I have seen ink cartridges sit on the shelf so long they expand slightly and become all but impossible to install in the Riso, but I have not seen one expand inside of the machine making it hard to remove. However, there is nothing you can do, really, besides pull as hard as you can.

Thanks. I'll keep at it with the pliers.

If the pliers do not work, you may have to take the drum body off to get to more of the tube or push from the ink pump / front area.

Also try to use two flat head screw-drivers on opposite sides and pry out slowly (the ink tube is a goner anyway).

This happens to old ink (color seems to be the worst) the carrier separates from the pigment and causes the tube to swell (not exactly sure if it is a space issue or chemical reaction - I asked a RISO Japanese rep one time and he acted like he didn't hear me, but he heard me fine in the next couple sentences when I asked if he wanted another beer...)

          Growing ink tube.

I have seen many ink tubes get stuck inside of a drum. I would say that it normally happens when the customer does not use there drum that often. There is a chemical reation going on that makes it grow. I have found that taking off the drum body and using a large flat head screw driver and hammer to hit the very top of the ink tube(on the edges is the best). You need to have the drum up against something, and it helps to have some one else pulling with pliers. Do not use and part of the drum to pry with. I have broken several frames on drums trying to pry them out. Hope this helps.
