    Ricoh DX2430

    Hey everybody

I normally fix Ricoh multi-function printers but recently I've had a few Ricoh DX2430 duplicators come in which will be sold to customers

Since this is the first time I've worked with these machines I'm just wondering what's your take on them.
    How reliable are they?
Any things to look out for? Etc, etc, etc

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Ricoh DX2430

That model came out after I retired. Previous models were fairly dependable. MAke sure the customer is aware of the minimum and maximum paper lengths. Anything less than the minimum length will jam just before the drum as trail edge will leave the delivery roller before the lead edge reaches the pressing roller.

I have serviced various models for years at schools. Cost factor for the customer is below about 50 copies per original, it is cheaper to use an MFP as they have to cover the cost of the master. I had a print shop at a school district that printed most of the paper used in the classrooms on Production Models. They did have one duplicator that they used to print return addresses on envelopes. They would do a couple of thousand at a run. Avoided the usual problems of feeding envelopes in a copier.

One problem with the previous models was the pressing roller was situated where in was possible for an operator to inadvertently release the latches holding the roller in the down when the drum was out for removing wrapped paper from the drum. That was at one school and the problem went away when they told the teachers not to open the door them selves but to contact the key operator. I had shown her what the problem was and how to avoid it.

One other thing, have either some good water-less mechanics hand cleaner or Scrubs Hand Cleaner towels with grit as the ink is hard to remove from hands and surfaces. Try not to get any on your clothing unless you are wearing black. Oh and have puppy training pads available to place under the drum unit if you have to set it on something to work on it.

      Thanks alot for that Slimslob.

I've been through 1 unit extensively and I'm learning 1 or 2 things along the way. I've seen that pressure roller that you mentioned and I've had to replace that. Also replaced the thermal head and some other parts.

      Thanks for the advice Slimslob

Be careful also to use recent ink because the old one could be too dry or oily and therefore cause problems
