    Master Disposal Issue

I have a GR 3770 that will not remove the old master from the drum. The drum clamp opens and the machine cycles then stops and advises remove master from drum. It does it every time with several different drums. I can remove the master and press any key to continue, it makes a master and runs fine. I'm just tired of manually removing the old masters. The guides on either side of the disposal rollers drop down as they should but I can't tell if the disposal rollers are turning. When I pull the drum out, the clamp is open and about 5 inches of the leading edge of the master is hanging down with a split up the middle (guessing the sheet separator/blower did that).

I'm also in need of a source for stripper pads. I use the thicker rigid rectangular pads and not the thin square rubber ones. Do you have a part number for these?

    Thanks, Chuck

Ok you have established that your master removal clamper is working!

Now you should check if your master removal claws is still there and that they not broken. If they are ok then you must check and see if the mater removal solenoid is opening the claws and that it opens them to a gap big enough to dispose of the master if not you will have to set this gap do not make the gap to big otherwise it will get caught in your clampers plate, use your manual for the rite procedure .Most often the gap becomes too small and this leads to master jam or tearing the master.

Also check your master removal fan is working
    Test mode
    70 Master removal fan
71 Master removal vertical transport motor
    71 Master removal solenoid

    Good luck

    What? HuH?

I have narrowed the problem to the gear reduction unit (I assume that is what it is) mounted between the motor and the belt assembly. All tests passed. The fan and motor runs. When I manually turn the master gripping shafts I can feel the motor trying to help me. However there is a snag somewhere and a popping sound at the motor. With the belt off the gripper shafts turns freely and the motor gear turns freely. I'm thinking the gears in said unit are worn. I have a parts machine but it appears I'll have to remove most of the framework in the rear of the machine to get to the screws. Does it sound like I'm on the right track?

          Hi

I am not sure what you referring to by "gear reduction unit" I take it you referring to the main drive section.
Before you start taking that apart, look at the following.

Take your master removal clamp unit off and check the gear on there, normally they break a couple of teeth and that makes a popping sound when it opens your clamper plate.
Did you adjust your master removal claws gap?
It could be warn gears or a belt that is just stretched.

Do you have a manual for doing the adjustments?
          What? HuH?

            Disposal problems

First I would check the the one way gear that is on the lower disposal roller. Run the disposal motor in test mode with the drum out. If the the motor is running but the rollers are not spinning this is your issue. This one way gear tends to go out. In test mode if you run the motor and you get a popping and grinding noise then I would think it is the disposal motor. I have sen then both go out, but the gear fails a lot more than the motor. To get out disposal unit. Take out disposal box. Prop the top of the machine up with the metal prop bar located on the back of the top of the machine. Take out the two screws from the top of the disposal unit that hold the clips that hold the dampers to the top of the disposal unit. Move dampers out of the way. Take out two screws on the disposal unit that go into the frame of the machine they will be on the curved part of the disposal unit and go into the frame of the machine. Then the whole disposal unit will come out. You will then be able to replace the disposal motor. Hope this helps.

I fixed it. It was the gears in the motor assembly. I replaced it with a motor off my 3750 parts machine. Thanks for everyones help. Chuck
