E03 is a clamp error. There is a unit in the back of the machine that opens and closes the clamp plate on the drum. This can be locked down. There are switchs on it that can be bad. There is a magnet on the end of the drum that could be mis alligned. many things can cause this. Give a little more info so I can zero in on the problem. Does it code right when you tune it on. Does it code when you go to make a master? I would try holding down the all reset button for 3 seconds. It should go away use the machine and tell me when it comes back.

this is basically what's happening: i put an 8.5x11 b/w laser print into the top scanner and the scanner accepts it. then the START light flashes (not the START button light). the MASTER MAKING light ii lit but i'm unable to select PHOTO or LINE. it stays on PHOTO. then i push the START BUTTON and the machine makes some quiet noise/clicking but no new master gets made. then the E03 error displays.

Can you get the drum out? If you push the gree button by the drum when you open the fron cover. When you do this do you hear the loud noise? If so the clamp is stuck in the disposal unit. You will have to open the top and rotate the drum backwards to get it out and then retime the machine. If the drum does home the green light is on and then you can pull it out. Check that the clamp on top of the drum flaps back in forth with ease, and that there is not 2 masters wrapped arround the drum. Sometimes this needs to be lubricate. If you check all of these things and this clicking noise comes only while attempting to make a master than I would point to the clamp base plate on the clamp being bad. Good luck and I hope that you get it figured out.

yeah the drum comes out. i have a few drums and i have the same issue regardless of which drum i use. i'm feeling like the issue is in the master roll area. i've removed the roll and replaced it a couple of times. the printer disposed of the master that was on the drum but i can't get it to create a new master.

Take the back off the machine. Make a master. Look in the center top of the back of the machine. You will see the clamp. If it is clicking try pushing down with light pressure. If it opens the clamp on the drum it is the base plate of this clamp that is bad. If it does not the sensor underneath it that reads where the magnet on the drum is could be mis aligned.
