    Riso RP 3505 Master Error

    Hey All -

We have a Riso RP 3505 and it runs well - but lately when we try and run a new master the old one tears about 5 inches in the middle of the old master and then jams up the machine.

Then of course we get stuck in a feedback loops of master remains on print cyliner - rewind master - replace master - etc... we know that we can cut a new master and put it on there but that rarely works and is very annoying.

Anyone know what is causing the tear???

    Thanks for the help!

    master problems

sounds like the master clamp is not releasing the old master. In the back of the machine there is a clamp motor with gears and a cam. I suspect this is out of time or not working

Anything stuck under the clamp on the drum? Does this problem happen on all drums or just one? If it happens on just one drum then there is something wrong with the clamp on that drum. ie white circular plastic pieces on the end of the clamp are broken, or the side with two of theses one gets bent. if it happens on multiple drums check the clear piece of plastic in the middle of the machine. it serves as a guide, but really just gets in the way. it can get coated with ink or get bent down and cause the master not to go in the disposal unit properly.

Hey there - I know the wheels on the end are ok.. we've had those break before and they appear to be ok.

I'll try and clean off the plastic strip in the machine and test it out. We only have one master so I'll see if I can pinpoint the problem.

We do seem to have a lot of ink on the master roller - we only use genuine riso ink.. but maybe we have something wrong with the Drum?

        Thanks!

Open the scanner unit and the disposal cover to see into the disposal box. There should be 8 disposal belts, 4 large yellow ones, 4 smaller black ones. Are they present? They will eventually break.

Ah yes we've replaced those before as well but all 8 seem to be in good shape. For some reason it looks like there is an orange guide that sticks out where the paper feeds to the output tray... right where the drum is in the machine. For some reason that piece is tearing the master when it trys to dispose and it gets all caught up in the machine.

We may just be having an issue with our drum... I know we've had this issues for a while now... and nothing seems to fix it... The machine will just get stuck in an endless feedback loops and we have to manually put a new master on the drum to get it out of the loop.

For some reason the master isn't leaving the drum. It would be best to watch the master disposal process with the scanner unit open and see if the disp belts are rotating and what is happening with the clamp/ejection process. The master should be gone long before reaching the orange sep finger and that is why it is tearing.
