    Riso RP3700 DEAD

I had posted earlier about not being able to unlock the drum etc. I found a blown fuse (F5) which is a 3.15 Amp . I replaced it with a 3.0 Amp as it was all I could get. Turned the machine on and it started fine - no error codes! Then it got to the master disposal stage and once more the dreaded "T17-020" code came up. Checked the new fuse and sure enough it had blown. Would the .15A under rated capacity have caused it? I note that same fuse controls the clamp, motor, master disp motor, cutter motor and paperfeed clutch.
I think the problem is caused by the master compress motor either seizing up under load or defective. Problem is that not only is it a lot of work to remove and test, but Riso no longer makes any parts for these machines, which is a real bummer as mine has less than 1 mil and had been running great until now. I would like to know if there is a good chance that I am right about the master compress causing the problem and if so, are these units repairable? Also if anyone knows of another non functioning RP3700 which I could buy for parts. Any advice on other possible causes and solutions would be greatly appreciated. I am very disappointed in Riso's policy not to produce parts for their products after such a relatively short period compared with other mfgs.

T17 is an error relating to the print and master counters. You might want to check that.

It was a compression motor causing my fuse blow - are you sure that there isn't a jam in the master disposal system? I resolved all of this by clearing out the discarded master jam (which was WICKED) and replacing the fuse. I got it from a local electronics shop (not radioshack, but i bet they would have the correct fuse too?) - but clearing the jam was critical for preventing the fault.

Funny that we should be facing the same problem at basically the same time.

I am 80% sure that my problem also lies in the disposal end of things but I had not considered a jam. Sure I had a master hanging off the cylinder but after removing it everything else in there "looked" clear. When I have time I will be removing the master disposal mechanism as I realize not all jammed material is readily visible without getting a few components out of the way first. Before all of this happened I was getting a lot of master feed and disposal problems I always had to start with an empty disposal box as it was not compressing the master. Even then I had to keep rewinding and reinserting the master material several times, so it is highly likely that a piece is stuck somewhere. I hate to have to junk the machine as it has less than 1 mill on it and until recently has worked great. BTW was your jammed master/s readily visible or did you have to remove a few items first before you saw it?

VERY visible, very gnarly. a piece of master was wrapped around the furthest back (drive side) set of rubberbands very tangled and knotted. I basically had to cut it out.

Philp, you might want to make sure all your orings are on. If they get nocked off or missing you'll get all kinds of jams.
            Good luck.
