    Technician Wages

I'm trying to review our current payscale since it hasn't been adjusted in a while and with us about to start hiring, I don't want to not get techs to apply because of starting wage. I've tried calling some competition in my area, but they wouldn't give out any info. I understand depending on the location of the company, the wages are going to be different, so if you could put the city you work in with the average wages of your company so I can adjust for cost of living, I would appreciate it.

    1. Entry Level Tech or minimal certs/experiance:
    2. Good Tech, trusted in field-don't have to babysit:
    3. Senior Tech:
    4. Service Manager:

-What kind of vacation and benefits are given?:
-Are raises at regular intervals and what percent?:

Thanks for all input, please don't give your actual wages, just estimates. Thanks!

benefits nope none of those with the office I work in. Vacation. One week a year. Pay Raise.. Not very often. Only reason I got a pay raise in last few years was cause the new accountant told the Owner that he was WAY Underpaying his techs. The man has so much money from this copier company and his other side businesses that he doesn't understand that prices on things go up.

I feel for you guys. As a former field tech (for 13 years) I know how the vast majority of copier dealers view technicians as a necessary evil. Salesmen are always taken care of first when it comes to pay adjustments and techs are lucky if they get raises at all. You would think that techs would make good money because of all the intelligence, education, and talent it takes to be an effective technician. Unfortunately, the ability to bullshit and look nice in a suit are what's really important in this world (at least in the world of copiers).
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

That's a great idea whose time has come. But as I said, I'm a former copier technician. I got out of the field and into IT. I still work on printers and copiers fairly often as part of my IT job, but I don't think I would qualify as a copier/printer field technician. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though

Apparently, in Texas, $13 an hour is the going rate.

There are about 5 big dealers in my town. I would bet I could make more at any of the others, but although I would welcome more money, I work here for things money don't buy. Job security... if things get bad, I am sure I would be one of 3 techs kept. Freedom... I get a lot of freedom to work how I want to, book my own calls, make up my own prices. I told several customers I would give them two years free labor on some color printers I was trying to sell. I told the owner after the fact and he was cool with it. We all get along so it is kind of like family.

                      Two weeks vac
                      Company truck- 2007 Tacoma
With 11 years I make a little more than they do in Texas

                      Christmas party
                      Get commission if I sell-20%
If you take care of business it is pretty easy going most time.
Training?? We don't need no stinking training!!
Off the street with no experience, as low as 8 to 10 an hour to start.
No time clock, don't have to log in and out on calls, just do them.

If you want to compare with something, while I was waiting for my delivery driver in front of a building, I was talking to one of the office workers. He was telling me he makes $87,000 a year and when the Army command moves here he wants to transfer over to them cause they will make more money. Office worker...Just have to get a top secret security clearance.

before i started my own biz, my pay was 50 Euros a day, that's like 1000 a month, after 5 years of servicing. How much was your monthly income? somebody else from Europe?

Im from Norway, and i earn about 2800 euros a month, and thats pretty low for Norwegian standars. Been a tech for 3 years now.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

That's actually a REALLY good idea! I'll second and third it. Remember when Xerox screwed over (thousands I think) of technicians because they were deemed not necessary then the downtime on their machines increased. I see technicians like accountants or cashiers...if they all walked out and left their jobs one day...the entire company would collapse and go bankrupt.
