How Much would we be worth if we didn't do our Jobs. Bet it wouldn't take long. UNITE> we're not copier tech's. We work on MFP's, Computers, Applications, Interconnection's and customer satisfaction for the mystery of the box that let's them fax, email, print, copy, etc.

As much as I hate unions, I'm starting to agree with you. We're not exactly unskilled labor, we just get treated that way.

We actually had a union for one of our service departments about 7 or 8 years ago.

Got rid of it less than a year.

The man has so much money from this copier company and his other side businesses that he doesn't understand that prices on things go up.
LOL. You're lucky to have had an accountant to look out for your neck. In the old job I had, I was there for two years, very much underpaid. I couldn't get out because they gave some really challenging tech work and I was thinking I'd be out when I get all the knowledge and do my own thing. That took two years, but I'm earning what I deserve now.

Union forming is a good idea, but you have to tread carefully. Any business owner would just fold your department up and then go outsource the service. Am not saying it's a viable step for them to take, but they really think it's that easy.

big money can only be made in the big cities/

NYC_ 10yr exp.= at least 25.00 per hr. if not more when u have Network training

i can understand in some parts of the country u have no recourse but to take what is offered
, in the big cities there is plenty of competition for top field service techs.

Damn dude, you could get that working at an assembly line. or maybe even a fast food restaurant. Good luck in your hunt.[/QUOTE]

Well I am looking but no bites yet and really do not want to move as I have children in school. What amazes me though is that I would be honestly ok with 36k to 40k a year for where I live. I would allow me to pay my bills, put some savings away, and take care of my kids a little better; ie: family vacation or a nice Christmas and such, but its doubtful.

Depends on experience - Its posted on monster, I think. It would be posted under something like "Office Equipment Technician" in Monroe, LA. Let me know if you submit a resume - I get a bounty on new hires

Thanks for asking but I need to hang around the CA and AZ area because of family and kids.

Living where the cost of living is lower helps, but with kids in school you need to do what you need to do. Not so easy to leave the job for the unknown. If it's any consolation, the boss, no matter where you are will try to pay you the minimal amount possible to what the market allows. when times are hard they have the upper hand; when times are fat and people are buying quality employees, all the hard working techs that put time in to keep up with the technology will benefit.
Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.

Plus there's little skill or talent to selling a copier. I was reading this book "How to sell copiers" and it basically said it's all a numbers game...e.g., call XXX number of people, setup YY number of appointments, equals sell Z number of copiers. My dead grandmother could do that!

Salesslime are usually paid on commission-if they make six figures, it's because they pushed a lot of product-that is good for a dealer-they do not get paid just to sit around. If you dead grandmother could make six figures, why don't you? (hint- I know the answer, and it's the same reason that I don't make six figures- I LIKE being a tech)
