was at a customers office today and saw a 4100 fax that i had not seen before. asked about it and customer says we cant fax to 800 numbers with this so we went back to the canon fax. had a few minutes so i tried it, would not connect, plugged the $100 canon in tried same 800 number , went right through. have seen alot of 4100/4750 through the years but have never had an issue like this. does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this?? thanks--tomtuey

The only time I've ever specifically seen 800 numbers fail was when they were blocked by the phone company. I plugged in the handset and dialed an 800 number ... I got a click, then a dial tone. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

thats what i thought until i plugged the canon fax in and it went right through. i'm gonna check the brother settings options to see if it could be there (really doubt it) , they say that they have a 4100 at another location that wont connect to 800 numbers either. i think i can rule out the phone line . thanks--tueyComment

i have the 4750 version, only thing i've ever had to do on these is rebuild doc feed and a couple of fusers.Comment

the doctors were in that office today so i didn't want to be there, i'm going tomorrow. i appreciate the help and really the reset sounds logical and will try it first, thank-you. i've been selling and servicing faxes since they came out, and not being able to send to 800 # is a new one on me. thanks again-- tueyComment
