Power off/on will reboot and work for a while...tried unplugging for a couple of minutes. Is printer reset a good idea? Will it lose any settings?
Thanks in advance.

You need to print 'Printer settings' last 10 errors should be there. Or print from Service mode 77 list.
As for reset you will have to re-enter network settings etc, not so much trouble. Personally I will do FW update before reset, it's easy especially if machine is network connected and full version of driver is installed.

Find out if they are using the correct print driver. We have had a few of these start to lock up and it was due to them using the WSD driver believe it or not. It does not need to be printing at the time. We have started to turn of wsd detection in the brothers so windows 10 does not auto load the driver. Once we loaded the correct driver the lock up ups have stopped. Brother is working to see why this is happening.

Thanks for the info. Do you know or have you tried a firmware update to fix?

We have tried firmware and that did not seem to fix the issue. The quickest test would be to disconnect it from the network and see if the machine starts to respond again after about a minute or two.
It could be sitting idle for some time and just go into screen freeze. The customer has been advised about using correct drivers and not WSD, as discussed earlier in this thread. Their I.T. guys were dealing with it. Haven't heard back from them yet.
