Ok so we had a power outage and when the power came back on the Printer On/Off light is green but the screen is blank. The switch does not turn the machine on or off--i.e, it does not "toggle" on or off. I have tried all the suggestions of holding down the button with power on/off and had Brother Tech support go through all the same attempts. I connected it with USB my computer does not "see" the printer with the power on. I have on two occasions been able to somehow get it to "boot" and the screen appears. First time I pulled the plug out to move the machine back where it should be thinking it was fixed but when I plugged in same issue. The second time I got it to "boot" it wanted me to change the password tried to exit out of that and the screen went blank. Brother support referred me to a print repair place but this machine is about 5 years old so I don't think its worth paying to fix as they want $180 to diagnose and then the repair and parts would be extra.
In the mean time I purchsed a barely used L8900 with the cartridges on FB Marketplace for $300 so I am back in business. But I figure if I can repair this machine I can either sell it ot donate it. So any ideas on what it can be? Any clue why it suddenly boots when maybe 20 efforts at trying the "hard boot" routine works? I was thinking maybe the "toggle" works randomly and when that happens I get it to boot.
