Brother MFC 9970 CDW copying only half of reverse side page in duplex mode.

    Hey guys,

Newb tech here. Got a customer with a Brother MFC 9970 CDW. When they load the paper through the doc feeder for duplex printing, page 1 prints perfectly. But when you turn the page to the reverse side, it looks as if the image was "pulled up" from the top, leaving only the bottom half and blank space below (see pic attached).

I'm thinking some gear or roller's going bad. I'd appreciate any suggestions. I've already searched the forum but didn't find anything. Apologies if this is silly, but I'm new on the job (working for my dad and his teaching method is trial by fire).

    Thanks guys [emoji106]

There are a few different ways to duplex. Are you copying 1-2 (single-sided originals to two-sided copies), 2-2 two-sided originals to two-sided copies), or 2-1 (two-originals to single-sided copies)? It makes a difference. Not knowing, it could be a problem with the DF scanning registration, or a problem with print registration second side only.

So I'm going to guess that you're copying single-sided originals to two-sided copies, yes?:

The simplest solution for 1-2 copying (2-2 copying) is that your originals have significant curl, and the additional curl causes them to catch on the edge of the slit glass, delaying the original passage only second side. Test with some uncurled originals to determine if that's the cause.

I'm going to stop right there for now. Let me know what you discover. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks very much for the reply blackcat .

Forgot to mention that yes, it's 2-2 copying as you mentioned.

I'm seeing the customer again this week, so I'll take your advice nd report back.

      Thanks again.
